The short answer

Has your car broken down and cannot be fixed at the roadside? Then give this address to your breakdown service or the recovery company: Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, Boterdiep 11, 3077 AW Rotterdam. We are close to exit 24 (Rotterdam-Feijenoord) on the A16, near the Van Brienenoord Bridge and the A15.

Broken-down cars get priority. We usually read the fault codes on the day the car arrives. We tell you the cause and the price first, and we only start the repair once you agree. Outside opening hours, the car can be parked in front of our garage at your own risk, with the key in an envelope in our letterbox. During opening hours, you can reach us on +31 10 479 00 00. Our team speaks English.

How your car gets to us

Has your car broken down, and the breakdown service cannot fix it on the spot? This is how you arrange for it to come to us:

  • Call your breakdown service: ANWB Wegenwacht (the roadside assistance of the ANWB, the Dutch motoring organisation), your insurer’s breakdown cover, your lease or rental company, or the number on your breakdown cover card from home
  • Say that you want your car taken to Autobedrijf Willemsbrug
  • Give the address: Boterdiep 11, 3077 AW Rotterdam
  • During opening hours: give us a quick call, so we know the car is coming
  • Outside opening hours: have the car parked in front of the garage at your own risk and put the key in an envelope and post it through our letterbox
  • We read the fault codes and call you with the cause and the price

On the motorway? Switch on your hazard lights, get everyone behind the crash barrier and call your breakdown service from that safe place. In an emergency, call 112.

Why have your car brought to us?

We are in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, close to exit 24 on the A16. According to Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch national roads authority (source in Dutch), around 250,000 vehicles cross the Van Brienenoord Bridge every day. If you break down on the A16 near the bridge, on the A15 near Rotterdam or in IJsselmonde, we are close by.

A family business since 1979, today based in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, we are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK (MOT) station. We also repair lease cars, vans, motorhomes, and hybrid and electric cars.

Our team speaks English. We explain what is wrong with your car in clear, jargon-free English, and we tell you the price before we start.

What we do once your car is with us

  • Read the fault codes and find the cause of the breakdown
  • Call you with the cause, the price and how long the repair will take
  • Start the repair only after you agree
  • Discuss the repair with your lease company where needed
  • Call you when the car is ready to collect
  • Give a second opinion if you have doubts about a quote from another garage

We only carry out extra work after you agree.

Outside opening hours

Is it evening or Sunday, or are we closed for another reason? Outside opening hours, the breakdown service, recovery company or towing company can park your car in front of our garage at your own risk, in a parking space if one is free. Put the key in an envelope and post it through our letterbox. On the envelope, write your name, your phone number, the number plate, what is wrong with the car and that we may run a diagnostic check. Not travelling with the car? Ask the driver to post the envelope through our letterbox. We will call you on the next day we are open.

Take any valuables out of the car and lock it if you can. The car and the key remain at your own risk until we have taken them in. Normal parking rules apply to the car. If there is no free space, park nearby and write on the envelope where the car is.

During opening hours

Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 17.30 and Saturday from 9.00 to 15.00. Call +31 10 479 00 00 when the car is on its way. Then we know it is coming and can schedule it quickly. Would you like to know in advance what a diagnostic check costs? Just ask us.

We help with all makes, including vans such as the Volkswagen Crafter and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, box vans and motorhomes, all up to 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass. Our mechanics are GMTO certified for safe work on the high-voltage systems of hybrid and electric cars.

Breakdown with a van or motorhome

Vans, box vans and motorhomes up to 3,500 kg can also come to us after a breakdown. Vans already come to us through ANWB Wegenwacht and the breakdown services of lease companies. Tell your breakdown service or the recovery company that it is a van or motorhome, so they send the right truck. A commercial vehicle that has broken down gets priority, because time off the road costs you money.

With a motorhome, we repair the base vehicle, not the living area. Outside opening hours, a large van or motorhome may also be parked in front of the garage at the owner’s risk, as long as it does not block the street. We give a warranty on our repairs. The quote tells you which warranty applies.

Frequently asked questions about a car breakdown

No need to click: every answer is right here for you.

Can I choose which garage my car goes to?

Often, yes. With breakdown cover through your car insurance, you can usually give an address of your choice. According to its terms and conditions (in Dutch), the ANWB takes the car to the nearest garage, but takes your wishes into account where possible. With a lease or rental car, the lease or rental company decides. So give our address: Boterdiep 11, 3077 AW Rotterdam.

Can my car be dropped off after closing time?

Yes.

What do I write on the envelope with the key?

Your name, your phone number, the number plate and what is wrong. For example: it will not start, the engine warning light is on, there is smoke from under the bonnet or there is a strange noise. Also write down what happened just before the car stopped. The more we know, the faster we can find the cause. You can write it in English.

How soon will I know what is wrong?

Broken-down cars get priority. We usually read the fault codes on the same working day. Then we call you with the cause, the price and how long the repair will take. If the car arrives outside opening hours, we start on the next day we are open. If parts need to be ordered, we tell you when the car can be ready.

Do you speak English?

Yes. Our team speaks English, and we regularly help expats and other international customers. You can explain the problem in English, and we explain what we find, the options and the expected costs in clear, jargon-free English.

What does the ANWB or recovery driver need to know?

The address is Boterdiep 11, 3077 AW Rotterdam, close to exit 24 (Rotterdam-Feijenoord) on the A16. During opening hours, the driver can hand over the car and the key to us. Outside opening hours, the driver parks the car in front of the garage at the owner’s risk and puts the key through our letterbox in an envelope with the owner’s details. We accept vehicles up to 3,500 kg. We do not tow or collect cars ourselves.

My car will not start at home. Can you come out to me?

No, we do not come out. Have the car brought to us by ANWB Wegenwacht, your insurer’s breakdown cover or a towing company. If the battery is flat, the breakdown service can sometimes jump-start the car on the spot. Read more about starting problems and the battery (in Dutch).

Can you collect or tow my car?

No, we do not have our own tow truck. You arrange transport to us through ANWB Wegenwacht, your insurer’s breakdown cover, your lease company or a towing company. We take in the car and find the cause.

My car is at a recovery company. What now?

After a breakdown or accident on the motorway, a recovery company often takes the car to its own yard first. According to Rijkswaterstaat (in Dutch), a recovered vehicle must be collected within 3 days. Ask your insurer or breakdown service to arrange transport to us. We do not collect cars from recovery companies ourselves.

Who pays for the towing?

That depends on your breakdown service or insurance. According to the ANWB (in Dutch), members with Wegenwacht cover do not pay call-out or towing costs for a breakdown. Ask whether this also applies to transport to us. With breakdown cover through your car insurance, you will find it in your policy terms. You pay for the repair yourself. We tell you the price first, and we only start once you agree.

Can I pay by credit card?

No, we do not accept credit cards. You can pay by debit card or in cash. Please keep this in mind if you only have a credit card with you.

I have breakdown cover from my home country. Can my car come to you?

Yes. We also help cars with a foreign number plate. Call the breakdown number on your card or policy and give our address. Whether the transport to us is covered depends on your own terms.

Do you repair lease cars?

Yes. With a lease car, the lease company decides where the car may be repaired. Check this with your lease company first. If the car may come to us, we find the cause and discuss the repair with the lease company where needed. The repair often needs the lease company’s approval, and that can take some time.

Can you take in a broken-down van or motorhome?

Yes, up to 3,500 kg maximum authorised mass (driving licence category B). Large vans such as the Volkswagen Crafter and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and box vans, can come to us. We cannot take in heavier motorhomes or lorries. Tell your breakdown service or the recovery company that it is a van or motorhome, so they send the right truck. Read more about van repairs (in Dutch) and motorhome repairs (in Dutch).

Can my lease company’s breakdown service bring a van to you?

Yes, this already happens. Vans come to us through ANWB Wegenwacht and through the breakdown services of lease companies. With a lease van, the lease company decides where it may be repaired. So ask first whether the van may come to us, and give our address: Boterdiep 11, 3077 AW Rotterdam.

My commercial vehicle has broken down. How quickly can you help?

A commercial vehicle that has broken down gets priority. We check it as soon as possible. Then you hear the cause, the price and how long the repair takes. Do you have several vehicles? Read how we work with business customers (in Dutch).

My motorhome has broken down. What do you repair?

We repair the base vehicle of motorhomes up to 3,500 kg, such as the engine, the clutch, the brakes and the vehicle electrics. We do not work on the living area, such as the gas system, the water system, the 230 V electrics, the fridge or the heater. For those, please contact a motorhome specialist.

Can a large van or motorhome be dropped off outside opening hours?

Yes, just like a car: at the owner’s risk, in a place where parking is allowed and if there is space. Make sure a long van, box van or motorhome does not block the street or a driveway. If there is no space, park nearby and write on the envelope where it is. Put the key through our letterbox in an envelope.

My electric or hybrid car has broken down. Can you help?

Yes. Our mechanics are GMTO certified for safe work on the high-voltage systems of hybrid and electric cars. According to the ANWB (in Dutch), most breakdowns of electric cars in 2025 were caused by flat tyres or the 12-volt battery.

What are the most common causes of a breakdown?

In 2025, the ANWB helped more than 1.3 million people with a breakdown. The battery was the biggest cause: ANWB Wegenwacht dealt with 337,000 battery problems. Flat tyres and technical faults are also common. Winter is especially busy: January was the busiest month.

Can I come to you with a breakdown on a Saturday?

Yes. On Saturday we are open from 9.00 to 15.00. If your car arrives after 15.00 or on a Sunday, it can be parked in front of the garage at your own risk, with the key in an envelope in our letterbox. We will then call you on the next day we are open.

What should I do if I break down on the motorway?

If you can, drive on to an emergency lay-by, a car park or a petrol station. If that is not possible, switch on your hazard lights and stop as far to the right as possible, on the hard shoulder or the verge. Get everyone behind the crash barrier, preferably wearing a high-visibility vest. Then call your breakdown service from that safe place. Give the number on the nearest hectometre post, the small sign along the motorway, so they can find you. In an emergency, call 112. This is the advice of Rijkswaterstaat (in Dutch).

Should I call ahead?

During opening hours, yes please. Call +31 10 479 00 00 so we know the car is coming. Outside opening hours, we cannot be reached by phone, WhatsApp or email. Leave your phone number with the key. We will call you on the next day we are open.

What if the repair seems too expensive?

Then you decide what happens. We only start the repair after you agree. If you have doubts about a quote from another garage, you can also come to us for a second opinion (in Dutch).
