Air con regas for almost every make

Car air con regas in Rotterdam

Is your air con not as cold as it used to be? Then it is often low on refrigerant. During an air con service we check the system and refill it to the manufacturer’s specification. It costs from € 120 and can often be done the same day.

Rotterdam family business since 1979 | 4.8 / 5 from 235 reviews | F-gas certified | R134a and R1234yf

The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, an air con regas costs from € 120 for cars with R134a and from € 180 for cars with R1234yf. That includes recovering the old refrigerant, vacuuming the system, the leak-tightness check, refilling to the manufacturer’s specification and VAT.

A regas is also called an air con service. We do not top up whatever refrigerant is left in the system. We recover it all and refill the system with the correct amount. This takes about 45 minutes to an hour. You can wait for your car. You can often come in the same day, Saturdays included.

We only refill once the system passes the leak-tightness check. If we suspect a leak, we talk to you first. Repairs and extra work are not included in the starting price, and we only do them with your approval. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number.

How much does an air con regas cost?

Service For which car or situation Price including VAT
Air con regas, car with R134a Most cars up to around 2017 from € 120
Air con regas, car with R1234yf Most cars from around 2017 from € 180
Air con regas, hybrid or electric car High-voltage compressor with its own insulating oil We give you the price in advance
Leak test or repair If we suspect a leak or a part is faulty Quote in advance

Included in the price: recovering the refrigerant, vacuuming the system, the leak-tightness check, refilling to the manufacturer’s specification and VAT. The leak-tightness check is a vacuum test: we check whether the system holds the vacuum. This shows up larger leaks. A very small leak may only show up later.

Not included: a nitrogen leak test, repairs and parts. We discuss those with you first.

Good to know: if the air con starts blowing warm again later, finding the leak is a separate job. The air con service is not refunded in that case.

Why “from”? The price depends on your car and on the amount of refrigerant the manufacturer specifies. You hear the price before we start. R1234yf costs more to buy than R134a, so that service costs more.

Not sure which refrigerant your car uses? It is on the sticker under the bonnet. The year of manufacture does not tell the whole story: around the changeover, a car can have either. Also read our article on R134a or R1234yf (in Dutch). These prices apply from October 2026.

How an air con regas works with us

We work by appointment, on Saturday too. You book by phone. If your car stays with us for longer, bring it in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am. For a quick question or check, you can walk in without an appointment.

1

Call

Call +31 10 479 00 00 and have your registration number ready. We tell you the price and what you pay if the system cannot be refilled. We also tell you when we can fit you in. Often that is the same day.

2

Recover and check

We test how the air con works and recover the refrigerant from the system. Then we vacuum the system and check whether it holds the vacuum.

3

Refill

Does the system pass the check? Then we fill it with the amount of refrigerant the manufacturer specifies. If we suspect a leak, we talk to you first.

4

Test and done

We measure whether the air con blows cold again. In most cases your car is ready after 45 minutes to an hour. You can wait for your car.

When does your air con need a regas?

These are the symptoms customers come to us with. Sometimes a regas is enough. A check shows whether that is the case for your car.

  • The air con cools noticeably less than it used to. This is often because refrigerant has escaped over the years. A regas is usually enough.
  • The air con blows lukewarm or warm air. This can mean a shortage of refrigerant, but also a leak or a faulty part. Read more in our article on why a car air con stops working (in Dutch).
  • The air con does not switch on. With too little refrigerant, the compressor sometimes stops engaging. That is a safety feature. It can also be the compressor, a sensor or a fuse. In that case, read more about air con repair.
  • A musty smell comes from the vents. A regas does not solve that. Air con cleaning and a new cabin filter will help.

Regas, or is there a leak?

An air con system is sealed. Even so, a tight system loses refrigerant through the hoses and seals. Often that is five to ten per cent a year. That is normal. After a few years the air con cools less as a result. A regas is usually enough then.

If the system loses refrigerant faster, there is a leak. A regas only helps for a short time. The leak has to be fixed first.

That is why we check before we refill. If the system passes the check, we refill it and the air con service is done. If it fails the check, we do not refill it, because the refrigerant would leak out again. The recovery and the check have been done, though, and we charge for that work. You hear what it costs in advance, when you book. After that we discuss the leak test with you.

Is the air con blowing warm again within a few months? Then there is probably a small leak that the check could not show. A vacuum test shows larger leaks, but not every small one. Read more in the frequently asked questions.

Our article on regassing a leaking air con (in Dutch) explains why we check first. Also read more about air con leak detection and our full air con service.

What does an air con service include?

  • Testing how the air con works
  • Recovering the refrigerant from the system
  • Vacuuming the system and checking it is leak-tight
  • Refilling with the amount of refrigerant the manufacturer specifies
  • Measuring whether the air con blows cold again
  • For cars with R134a and with R1234yf

We are F-gas certified. You hear the price before we start. We only do repairs and extra work with your approval.

We also regas the cab air con of motorhomes and vans up to 3,500 kg. It is the same technology as in a car. Read more about air con in motorhomes and vans (in Dutch).

How much does an air con regas cost for a car?

With us, an air con regas costs from € 120 for cars with R134a and from € 180 for cars with R1234yf. The price includes recovering the refrigerant, vacuuming, the leak-tightness check, refilling to the manufacturer’s specification and VAT.

The price depends on your car and on the amount of refrigerant the manufacturer specifies. You hear it before we start. A nitrogen leak test, repairs and parts are not included. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number.

What do I pay if my air con cannot be refilled?

Sometimes the check shows that the system does not hold the vacuum. Then we do not refill it, because the refrigerant would leak out again. You do not pay for refrigerant. The recovery and the check have been done, though, and we charge for that work.

You hear what that costs in advance, when you book. So before you come in, you know what the air con service costs and what you pay if the system cannot be refilled. After that we discuss the leak test with you.

Can I get my air con regassed today?

Yes. That is often possible, also on Saturdays from 9.00 to 15.00. Call us first and we will tell you when we can fit you in. In busy weeks, such as right before the summer holidays, it usually takes a few days.

The air con service takes about 45 minutes to an hour. You can wait for your car. If we suspect a leak or a repair is needed, we tell you in advance roughly how long that will take.

How often does a car air con need a regas?

A car air con often loses five to ten per cent of its refrigerant each year. That is normal. As a guide, plan an air con service every two to three years. Also check your car’s service schedule.

Does your air con need a regas more often? Then there is probably a leak. Read more in our article about air con maintenance (in Dutch).

My air con was regassed and blows warm again after a while. What now?

Then there is probably a small leak that the check could not show. A vacuum test shows larger leaks, but not every small one. The air con service has still been carried out. It is not refunded, because an air con service is maintenance and not a leak repair. Finding the leak is a separate job. You hear what that costs in advance. If the problem is down to our work, we put it right.

We look for the leak, usually with a nitrogen test. Sometimes UV dye is needed as well. After that you hear what the repair costs. Once the repair is done, we refill the system. Has your air con been regassed before and is it blowing warm again? Tell us when you call. Then we start with the leak test, not with refilling.

Which refrigerant does my car use: R134a or R1234yf?

Most cars up to around 2017 use R134a. Most cars from around 2017 use R1234yf. The year of manufacture does not tell the whole story: around the changeover, a car can have either. The refrigerant is shown on the sticker under the bonnet.

We check it for you using your registration number. We fill the refrigerant the manufacturer specifies. The two are not mixed.

Is an air con regas part of the APK (MOT) or the service?

No. The air con is not part of the APK. A service does not include an air con regas either. It is a separate air con service with its own price. You can combine it with your APK or service in the same visit. With a major service (in Dutch), the APK is free, except for Tesla and Polestar.

Can I regas my air con myself with a DIY kit?

No. We advise against it. A DIY kit does not fix a leak. You also do not know how much refrigerant is already in the system. Too much is harmful too. Some kits contain a leak sealant. That can contaminate the system and make a later repair more expensive.

During an air con service we first recover all the refrigerant and then fill the amount the manufacturer specifies.
