The short answer

Autobedrijf Willemsbrug aligns cars of every make with its own alignment equipment, in the workshop at Boterdiep 11 in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde. We measure the position of all four wheels and adjust them to the manufacturer’s data, so the car drives straight again and the tyres wear evenly. You hear in advance what the alignment costs. We only carry out extra work, such as replacing worn parts, if you agree to it.

According to the ANWB, a standard wheel alignment usually costs between € 70 and € 120 and takes 30 to 60 minutes on average. Book an appointment on +31 10 479 00 00 and have your registration number ready. Bring the car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am.

Do you recognise these signs?

You can tell from the steering and the tyres that a car is not aligned properly. Look out for these signs.

  • The car pulls to the left or right while you drive straight
  • The steering wheel is off-centre when you drive straight
  • The inside or outside edge of the tyres wears faster
  • You keep having to correct the steering to stay in a straight line
  • You have hit a kerb hard or driven through a deep pothole
  • Steering or suspension parts have been replaced

A car that is not aligned properly costs you tyres and fuel. It also holds the road less well, especially in bends.

Why well-aligned wheels matter

Wheel alignment means adjusting the angles of the wheels: the toe, the camber and the caster. These determine how the tyres sit on the road.

If the wheels are not set correctly, the tyres wear faster and unevenly. The car uses more fuel and holds the road less well. You then keep having to correct the steering to stay in a straight line.

A hard knock against a kerb or a deep pothole can be enough to put the wheels out of alignment. After a winter with frost there are often more potholes. Switching to winter tyres is also a good moment to have the alignment checked.

What we do during a wheel alignment

  • First check the tyres, the tyre pressures and the suspension
  • Measure the position of all four wheels with our alignment equipment
  • Adjust the toe to the factory data, and other angles where possible
  • Centre the steering wheel
  • Take a check measurement and a test drive after the adjustment
  • Tell you what we measured and adjusted

If there are worn parts, such as track rod ends or ball joints, we tell you first. We only do extra work with your approval.

When should you have your wheels aligned?

This table shows when wheel alignment makes sense and why.

When does wheel alignment make sense?
Situation Why Our advice
The car pulls to one side Often the toe or camber is out. The tyre pressure or a tyre can also be the cause Have it measured and adjusted
The steering wheel is off-centre when you drive straight Often the toe has shifted Have it measured and adjusted
Hit a kerb or a deep pothole A hard knock can change the wheel alignment or bend a part Have it checked, even if you notice nothing
Tyres wear on the inside or outside edge The toe or camber is out Align the wheels and replace the tyres if needed
New tyres or switching to winter tyres If the alignment is out, new tyres wear unevenly from the very first kilometre Have the alignment checked
Steering or suspension parts replaced Fitting new parts can change the wheel alignment Align the wheels after the work
After a collision Even a minor accident can change the wheel alignment Have it checked

Front and rear wheels

We measure and align all four wheels. On many cars only the front wheels can be adjusted. On other cars the rear wheels can be adjusted too. By measuring all four wheels, we set the front wheels correctly in relation to the rear wheels.

Driver assistance systems

Does your car have a camera behind the windscreen or a radar in the bumper or grille, for example for lane assist? On some cars that system needs to be recalibrated after a wheel alignment. Bosch lists a change to the alignment as one of the moments when this may be needed. Call us with your registration number and we will tell you in advance whether your car needs it. We do not calibrate cameras and radar ourselves. For that you can go to the dealer or a driver assistance specialist.

We align cars of every make and model, including hybrid and electric cars. Large vans such as the Volkswagen Crafter and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and box vans with a furniture body up to 3,500 kg, also fit on our lifts. Do you have a motorhome? Give us a call with your registration number.

How much does wheel alignment cost?

According to the ANWB, a standard wheel alignment usually costs between € 70 and € 120, including labour. The price depends on the type of car. That is an indication, not a quote from us. You hear the price for your car in advance.

Well-aligned wheels save your tyres and fuel. Call +31 10 479 00 00 to book an appointment. We also align your car on Saturdays.

You can combine the alignment with a service for your car, a major service (in Dutch) or an oil change (in Dutch). With a major service the APK (MOT) is free, except for Tesla and Polestar.

More about wheel alignment

Here you can read more about situations in which wheel alignment makes sense, and about vans and motorhomes.

After a kerb or a deep pothole

Have you hit a kerb or a deep pothole? Have the alignment checked, even if you notice nothing. A hard knock can change the wheel alignment or bend a suspension or steering part. You cannot see that from the outside straight away. Also check whether the tyre has a bulge or a cut. If so, it needs replacing. Can you not drive on? Read what to do in a breakdown.

Wheel alignment after new tyres

Wheel alignment after new tyres or switching to winter tyres is not needed in every case, but it is a good moment to have it checked. If the alignment is out, new tyres wear unevenly from the very first kilometre. We can often tell from the old tyres whether the alignment is out.

How often to have the alignment checked

There is no fixed mileage for wheel alignment. AutoScout24 advises having the alignment checked at least once a year or every 20,000 to 30,000 km. If you notice one of the signs sooner, have it done sooner.

Wheel alignment and fuel consumption

Poor alignment costs fuel, although the difference is usually small. If the wheels are not straight, the tyres roll over the road with more resistance. According to the ANWB, the car then uses more fuel. The biggest cost is tyres that wear faster. In an electric car it costs range. Road holding also gets worse, especially in bends.

If parts are worn

With worn parts, such as track rod ends, ball joints or wishbone bushes, a car cannot be aligned properly. They cause play, so the wheels do not stay in position. That is why we check them first. If they are worn, we tell you what replacing them costs. We only carry on with your approval.

The car pulls to one side after new tyres

If the car pulls to one side after new tyres, that can be due to the tyre pressure, the tyre itself or the alignment. We first check the pressures and the tyres and then measure the alignment.

Wheel alignment for vans and motorhomes

We also align vans. Large vans such as the Volkswagen Crafter and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and box vans with a furniture body, fit on our lifts. That applies to vehicles up to 3,500 kg. Do you have a motorhome? Call us with your registration number and we will tell you whether it fits.

All makes and models

We align cars of every make and model, from Volkswagen, Opel, Ford, Peugeot and Renault to Toyota, BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz. We also align hybrid and electric cars. If your car has lowered or modified suspension, we discuss in advance what is possible.

Frequently asked questions about wheel alignment

Below you will find answers to questions our customers often ask.

When should I have my car’s wheels aligned?

Have your wheels aligned if the car pulls to one side, the steering wheel is off-centre or the tyres wear faster on the inside or outside edge. Alignment also makes sense after a hard knock against a kerb, after a collision or after replacing steering or suspension parts. According to the ANWB, wheel alignment is not part of the manufacturer’s service schedule. If in doubt, have it checked.

How much does wheel alignment cost?

According to the ANWB, a standard wheel alignment usually costs € 70 to € 120, including labour. According to AutoScout24, aligning only the front wheels costs about € 60 to € 100, and all four wheels about € 90 to € 140. These are indications, not a quote from us. We align all four wheels. You hear the price for your car in advance and we only start once you approve.

How long does wheel alignment take?

According to the ANWB, wheel alignment takes 30 to 60 minutes on average. If bolts are seized by rust or parts are worn, it takes longer. We tell you how long it will take when you book. Bring the car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am.

What is the difference between wheel alignment and wheel balancing?

With wheel alignment we adjust the position of the wheels. A car that is not aligned properly pulls to one side or wears its tyres unevenly. With balancing we make sure a wheel spins evenly, using small weights on the rim. A wheel that is not balanced properly makes the steering wheel vibrate at higher speeds. Read more about balancing and tyres.

My steering wheel vibrates. Does the car need a wheel alignment?

No. Usually the alignment is not the cause. A vibrating steering wheel at higher speeds is more often caused by wheels that are not balanced properly, a damaged tyre or a buckled rim. If the steering wheel vibrates mainly when you brake, the brake discs may be warped. Read more about brake replacement. We find out where the vibration comes from. Also read what to do if your steering wheel vibrates while driving.

Does my car’s camera need recalibrating after a wheel alignment?

Yes. On some cars that is needed. If your car has a camera behind the windscreen or a radar in the bumper or grille, for example for lane assist, that system sometimes needs to be recalibrated after a wheel alignment. Bosch lists a change to the alignment as one of the moments when this may be needed. Call us with your registration number and we will tell you in advance whether your car needs it. We do not calibrate cameras and radar ourselves. For that you can go to the dealer or a driver assistance specialist.

Can I combine wheel alignment with switching to winter tyres?

Yes. That can be done in one appointment. Call us with your registration number and we will tell you in advance what it costs and how long it takes. Read more about changing to winter tyres and new tyres.

Is the wheel alignment checked during the APK?

No. The wheel alignment is not measured during the APK. The inspector does check for play in the steering and suspension, and checks the tyres. We are an RDW-approved APK station. Read more about the APK for your car, the APK for your van (up to 3,500 kg) and the APK for your motorhome.
