The short answer

If your car fails the APK, the failure points need to be repaired before the expiry date. Then the car is inspected again. Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an RDW-approved APK station at Boterdiep 11 in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, repairs the failure points, also when your car failed at another garage, and then retests the car. You hear what the repair costs in advance, and we only start once you agree. An APK with us costs € 50 for a petrol car.

Call +31 10 479 00 00 during opening hours with your registration number and the failure points. We work by appointment. For a quick question or check, you can walk in without an appointment.

How it works when your car has failed

Your car has failed and you want it sorted quickly? This is how it works with us:

  • Call us and give us the failure points from the inspection report
  • You hear which points we repair for you and what it costs
  • Book an appointment, ideally well before your APK expiry date
  • We repair the failure points once you agree
  • Then we retest the car. If it passes, we register the result with the RDW
  • Prefer to go back to the garage that inspected the car? That is fine too

Has your APK already expired? Then you may only drive to an APK appointment, within two months of the expiry date and with the appointment confirmation with you. With an expired APK you are not entitled to help from the ANWB roadside assistance (Wegenwacht). Read more about an expired APK.

What should you bring? Bring your car keys. Does your car have locking wheel nuts? Then bring the locking wheel nut key too. Also bring the inspection report from the failed test, or a photo of it on your phone. Lost the report? Then you can get a copy for a fee at an inspection station or an RDW customer desk, or from the garage that registered the last APK. You can also give us the failure points when you call.

Failure, repair and retest

During the APK the inspector assesses your car against the APK requirements. If the car does not meet them, it fails. You get an inspection report with the points that need to be repaired.

Small points can often be fixed during the inspection, in consultation with you. If that is not possible, you need to have the points repaired before your APK expiry date. Then the car is inspected again.

You choose where to have the repair done. Even if your car failed at another garage, you are welcome with us.

What we do when your car has failed

  • We go through the failure points on the inspection report with you.
  • We tell you in advance which points we repair and what it costs.
  • We only repair the failure points once you agree.
  • We retest the car against the APK requirements.
  • If the car passes, we register the result with the RDW.
  • We tell you which advisory points can wait.

Extra work is only done with your approval.

Points we do not handle

There are some jobs we do not do, such as lights, diesel particulate filters (DPF) and tyre pressure sensors. Is one of these points on your inspection report? Then we tell you straight away when you call. So you know where you stand in advance.

What the APK costs with us

An APK with us costs € 50 for a petrol car, petrol hybrid or electric car, € 60 for a diesel or diesel hybrid with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test, and € 125 for a van up to 3,500 kg. These prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW. Motorhomes have their own rate. You can read about it on the motorhome APK page. If you combine the APK with a major service (in Dutch), the APK is free, except for Tesla and Polestar. If the car failed at another garage, we carry out a new APK at our standard rate. If the car failed with us, you hear in advance whether there are extra inspection costs. Read more about the APK inspection.

We work on all makes and models, including hybrid and electric cars. You are also welcome with a van or motorhome up to 3,500 kg. Our mechanics hold the GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems) for work on hybrid and electric cars.

Do you doubt the failure?

Do you think the failure is not right, or do you find the other garage’s quote high? Then ask for a second opinion. According to the ANWB, you can also lodge an objection with the RDW. That costs money and you need the inspection report for it.

We take a look and tell you what we see. Read more about a second opinion. Our repairs come with a warranty. With the quote you hear which warranty applies.

Frequently asked questions about a failed APK

Below you will find the answers to the questions we are asked most often about a failed APK.

My car failed at another garage. Can I have it repaired by you?

Yes. You are free to choose where you have the repair done. Call us with your registration number and give us the failure points on the inspection report. Then you hear which points we repair for you and what it costs. We only start once you agree.

Do you repair all failure points?

No. There are some jobs we do not do, such as lights, diesel particulate filters (DPF) and tyre pressure sensors. So please give us the failure points when you call. Then you hear straight away which points we repair for you. We do handle tyres, brakes, suspension, shock absorbers and the exhaust.

Does my car need to be inspected again after the repair?

Yes. After the repair the car needs to be inspected again. According to the ANWB, this has to happen before your APK expiry date. We are an RDW-approved APK station. So after the repair we can inspect the car ourselves. If the car passes, we register the result with the RDW. If the car failed at another garage, we carry out a new APK at our standard rate. You can also go back to the garage that inspected the car.

How much does an APK cost with you?

An APK with us costs € 50 for a petrol car, petrol hybrid or electric car, € 60 for a diesel or diesel hybrid with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test, and € 125 for a van up to 3,500 kg. These prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW. If you combine the APK with a major service (in Dutch), the APK is free, except for Tesla and Polestar. Read more about the APK inspection.

Can I still drive a car that has failed?

Yes. You may do so as long as your APK expiry date has not passed. In that case the decision is yours. According to the ANWB, the police can still fine you if the car does not meet the technical requirements. Your insurer may also refuse to pay for damage. Has the car failed on the brakes, tyres or steering? Then drive no further than you need to and have the points repaired as soon as you can.

My APK has already expired. Can I drive to you?

Yes. But only when you are driving to an APK appointment. According to the ANWB, you may do this within two months of the expiry date, as long as you have the appointment confirmation with the time on it. With an expired APK you are not entitled to help from the ANWB roadside assistance (Wegenwacht). So book an appointment with us first.

How quickly can my car be repaired and inspected?

That depends on the failure points and on whether the parts are in stock. Tyres and brakes are often sorted quickly. Plan well before the expiry date, because we only carry out the APK Monday to Friday. When you book, you hear when the car will be ready. You can also book an APK appointment online.

What is the difference between a failure point and an advisory?

A failure point must be repaired before the car can pass. An advisory point still meets the APK requirements, but will need attention soon, such as early signs of wear. That is part of maintenance and does not need to be fixed for the inspection. We tell you what is urgent and what can wait.
