Customers give us 4.8 / 5 from 235 reviews | Servicing at an independent garage | Price in advance

The short answer

We change the engine oil of many makes with oil that meets the manufacturer’s specification. A new oil filter is included. You hear one total price in advance for the agreed work. Your car is usually ready within an hour and we have the used oil disposed of according to the current regulations.

Servicing at an independent garage does not automatically void your manufacturer’s warranty. The servicing must be carried out according to the manufacturer’s specifications and must be verifiable. What is included in our oil change?

You do not get a bare oil change with unclear extras afterwards. We agree a total price in advance for the work and the parts that go with it. This is what we do as standard:

  • Drain and dispose of the used oil. We have the old oil disposed of according to the current regulations. This is included in the agreed price.
  • A new oil filter. A new filter helps to filter contaminants out of the engine oil. That is why we replace it at every oil change, unless the manufacturer prescribes a different procedure for your car.
  • Oil to the correct factory specification. Using your registration number and the vehicle data, we check which oil specification and quantity are prescribed for your engine.
  • A new sealing washer for the sump plug and a check of the oil level. This reduces the chance of a leak at the drain plug.
  • Resetting the service interval. We can also do this on modern cars with a digital service indicator, as long as the required equipment and access are available for your car.
  • Stamping the service book or recording the service digitally. This keeps your car’s service history easier to prove for you and for a future buyer.
  • A quick check of fluid levels, tyres and lights. We tell you which points may need extra attention. We do not carry out any additional repairs without your agreement.

What the oil change costs for your car depends on the oil specification, the amount of oil and the type of oil filter. Call us with your registration number on +31 10 479 00 00 and you will hear the total price for the agreed work straight away.

Do you keep your manufacturer’s warranty at an independent garage?

Yes, regular servicing at an independent garage does not automatically void your manufacturer’s warranty. The servicing must be carried out according to the manufacturer’s specifications, with oil and parts that meet the correct specifications. You must also be able to show which work has been carried out.

That is why we work with the prescribed oil specification and stamp your service book or record the service digitally. You also receive an itemised invoice showing the oil used and the filter fitted.

This keeps your car’s service history in good order and avoids needless discussions about the work carried out. Warranty claims and additional warranty conditions can differ per make and agreement. Not sure about the conditions for your make? Call us and we will go through them with you.

Which oil belongs in your car?

Not all oil is the same. Two bottles with the same viscosity, for example 5W-30, can have different properties. What matters most is the factory specification. It differs per make, engine and sometimes even per engine variant.

Why the specification matters more than the viscosity

Manufacturers prescribe their own standards, such as VW 504.00 and 507.00, BMW Longlife-04, Mercedes-Benz 229.52 or specific PSA standards for Peugeot, Citroën and DS. These standards cover, among other things, engine protection and suitability for emission systems, such as a diesel particulate filter or catalytic converter.

We check the vehicle data and the manufacturer’s data so that we can choose the correct oil specification.

Long-life oil or the regular interval

For some cars the manufacturer prescribes an extended service interval in combination with a suitable long-life oil. That interval can be up to about 30,000 kilometres, but it differs per make, engine, use and service system.

Do you mainly do short trips in town? Then the engine reaches its normal operating temperature less often and for a shorter time. Moisture and fuel residues can then affect the oil. In that case a shorter oil change interval can be wise. You will find the correct interval in the manufacturer’s specifications or in our overview of service intervals.

Hybrid cars and electric cars

A fully electric car has no engine oil for a combustion engine. A hybrid does have that oil. In some hybrids the engine oil can need extra attention, because the combustion engine starts and stops more often and frequently does not run at operating temperature for long.

Our mechanics hold the GMTO certificate for work on hybrid and electric cars.

Do you drive a PureTech? Then the oil matters even more

In some engines with a timing belt that runs in the oil, such as certain PureTech engines from Peugeot, Citroën, Opel and DS, the correct oil is extra important for the reliability of the engine.

The timing belt is in contact with the engine oil. The wrong oil specification, a low oil level or service intervals that are too long can contribute to faster ageing or material loss of the belt. Loose particles can then cause problems in the lubrication system.

If the belt breaks or jumps, serious engine damage can follow. Correct servicing with the prescribed oil can reduce the risk of problems, but does not prevent every possible fault.

You can read more on our page about the wet timing belt (in Dutch) and about known problems with certain PureTech engines (in Dutch). Not sure whether your belt needs checking? Call us with your registration number.

Combine it in one visit

Many customers combine an oil change with other servicing or an APK (MOT). We are happy to plan this for you, so you can combine your visit to the workshop.

  • Together with an APK, so your car is off the road only once. An APK is a legal inspection. Any servicing or repairs are separate work.
  • As part of a minor or major service, with the checks and filters your car’s service schedule calls for. Also read what happens during a major service (in Dutch).
  • Together with a DSG oil change on a Volkswagen, Audi, Å koda or SEAT, if your transmission is due for it according to the service schedule.
  • Or with a closer look at the automatic gearbox if it jerks or shifts slowly. We only recommend a flush if it is technically suitable for your transmission.

We tell you clearly what we think is needed and what can wait. We do not carry out any additional repairs without your permission.

Frequently asked questions about oil changes

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

How much does an oil change cost at your garage?

That depends on the oil specification, the amount of oil and the oil filter your car needs. A small petrol engine usually takes less oil than a large diesel engine. You get one total price in advance for the agreed work, including the filter and the disposal of the used oil.

Call us with your registration number on +31 10 479 00 00 and you will hear straight away where you stand. We only carry out extra work once you agree.

Do I keep my manufacturer’s warranty if I do not go to the dealer?

Regular servicing at an independent garage does not automatically void your manufacturer’s warranty. The servicing must be carried out according to the manufacturer’s specifications, with oil and parts of the correct specification. You must also be able to show what has been done to the car.

That is why we use the prescribed oil specification, stamp your service book or record the service digitally. You also receive an itemised invoice.

Do you also replace the oil filter?

Yes, a new oil filter is a standard part of our oil change. The filter keeps contaminants out of the engine oil. A dirty or saturated filter can make the oil filtration less effective. That is why we replace the filter with every oil change.

Can you reset the service interval?

Yes. We can also reset the interval on modern cars with a digital service indicator, as long as the required equipment and access are available for your car. Your car will then show the next service date according to the vehicle’s settings.

How long does an oil change take?

On average an oil change takes thirty to sixty minutes. We call you as soon as your car is ready.

Are you combining the oil change with an APK or a service? Then we plan all the work in one visit and you hear in advance how long you will be without your car.

Does an electric or hybrid car also need an oil change?

A fully electric car has no engine oil for a combustion engine. So there is no oil change. Other fluids and parts, such as brake fluid, the cooling system and the air con system, may still need servicing.

A hybrid does have engine oil. In some hybrids that oil can need extra attention, because the combustion engine starts and stops more often and frequently does not run at operating temperature for long. The correct service interval differs per make, model and drivetrain.

Our mechanics hold the GMTO certificate for work on hybrid and electric cars.
