The short answer
Since March 2024, Stellantis, the group behind Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel, has offered an extended warranty for older 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech engines with premature timing belt wear or excessive oil consumption. According to Stellantis, it covers 100 per cent of parts and labour for up to 10 years or 180,000 km, depending on the production date. Repair costs you paid yourself between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2024 can be claimed via the Stellantis platform, in the Netherlands since 7 May 2025. Diagnosis and repair under the scheme go through an authorised repairer of the brand.
What does the Stellantis PureTech scheme include?
The PureTech scheme consists of an extended warranty and compensation for earlier costs. There is also a recall, which is separate from the scheme. Stellantis runs these arrangements for Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel. The table puts the three side by side.
| What | For whom | What you get | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extended warranty | Older 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech engines, depending on the production date | 100 per cent of parts and labour for premature belt wear or excessive oil consumption, up to 10 years or 180,000 km | Authorised repairer of the brand |
| Compensation for earlier costs | Owners who paid for repairs caused by belt wear or oil consumption between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2024 | Compensation, under conditions | Stellantis online platform, in the Netherlands since 7 May 2025 |
| Recall | According to the ANWB, cars built in 2017 and 2018 | Free repair at the garage the manufacturer appoints | Check by registration number with the RDW |

The technical problems behind the scheme, such as the wet timing belt (belt-in-oil) and the blocked oil strainer, are explained on our main page about PureTech engine problems.
What does the extended warranty cover?
According to Stellantis, the extended warranty covers 100 per cent of the cost of parts and labour for excessive oil consumption and for premature wear of the timing belt. It applies up to 10 years or 180,000 km, depending on the production date of the car. According to the ANWB, the scheme has applied since March 2024 and remains in force.
Read the current conditions of your brand before you apply.
How do you claim compensation for earlier repair costs?
You claim compensation via the Stellantis online platform. This applies to repair costs you paid between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2024 because of excessive oil consumption or wear of the timing belt. According to the ANWB, consumers in the Netherlands have been able to do this since 7 May 2025.
- Collect the invoices for the repair.
- Collect the invoices for the servicing of the car, with the date and the mileage.
- Start your claim on the Stellantis platform and follow the steps on the screen.
Recall for the 1.2 PureTech: how to check it with your registration number
According to the ANWB, Stellantis started a recall for problems with the brake servo and the timing belt. It applies to cars built in 2017 and 2018. You can check for free whether a recall is open for your car, using your registration number (the Dutch kenteken).
- Open the RDW registration check (in Dutch) at ovi.rdw.nl. The RDW is the Dutch vehicle authority.
- Enter your registration number.
- Choose the Overzicht (overview) tab.
- At the bottom of that tab, look under Terugroepacties (recalls). There you can see whether a recall has been reported for your car.
- If a recall is open, call a dealer for your make or the garage named in the manufacturer’s letter, and make an appointment.
The repair is done by a garage the manufacturer appoints, often a main dealer. According to the RDW it is free, and it can take a few weeks after the repair before the registration check is updated. We do not carry out recall repairs ourselves. If you did not get a letter, or if the letter says you must not drive the car, read what to do on our page checking a recall by registration number (in Dutch).
A recall is not the same as the extended warranty. Even if the recall has been carried out on your car, the belt may need replacing later. We look up the interval for your engine from your registration number.
Can the car be serviced at a garage other than the dealer?
Yes. According to the ANWB, the servicing may also have been done at a garage other than the dealer. It must then have been done on time and according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Stellantis states that the car must have been serviced according to the manufacturer’s maintenance plan, by a garage that follows the Stellantis servicing guidelines.
So servicing at our garage is allowed for the scheme, as long as it follows the manufacturer’s maintenance plan. We use the oil Stellantis specifies for your engine and follow the maintenance plan that belongs to your registration number. During a service we check the belt as the manufacturer prescribes. Keep the invoices of every service. More about warranty and servicing outside the dealer is in our article keeping your manufacturer’s warranty when you service outside the dealer.
What does Autobedrijf Willemsbrug do and not do for the scheme?
We do not run the scheme and do not decide on it. Diagnosis and repair under the scheme go through an authorised repairer of the brand. If you want to claim under the scheme, ask there first whether your car qualifies, before you have the belt replaced.
How we work and what is included is on our pages about the wet timing belt and timing belt replacement in Rotterdam.
