What do we check during the APK for your Kia?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a Kia, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • Small cars: on the Picanto and Rio, the tyres, brakes and lights are the main things the APK looks at. On older cars, we pay extra attention to rust.
  • Niro hybrid: on the Niro hybrid, the petrol engine gets an emissions test. The car mainly uses the electric motor to brake, so the brake discs get little use and can rust.
  • Electric: the Niro EV, EV3 and EV6 do not get an emissions test. Because of their weight, the tyres wear faster.
  • Kia warranty: Kia gives a 7-year warranty. According to Autoblog, since 2025 Kia extends it to 10 years or 150,000 kilometres, provided the last service was carried out by a Kia dealer. We want to be clear about that.

If you want to keep the extended Kia warranty, have your car serviced by a Kia dealer. You are still welcome to come to us for the APK. Once the warranty has ended, we will be happy to service your Kia.

Servicing your Kia with us

We service your Kia according to the manufacturer’s schedule, with oil and parts that suit your car.

  • Following the Kia schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: the standard manufacturer’s warranty does not automatically end if we service your car, as long as the work follows the Kia schedule and uses suitable parts. Please note: for the extended warranty of up to 10 years, Kia requires the last service to have been carried out by a Kia dealer.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Kia Niro, EV3 and EV6

The Niro as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric car, and the EV3 and EV6, can all come to us for the APK and servicing. A fully electric Kia does not get an emissions test. On a hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

Frequently asked questions about the APK for your Kia

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

Will I lose my Kia warranty if you do the APK?

No. The APK has no effect on the warranty. For servicing, the standard manufacturer’s warranty does not automatically end if an independent garage does the work. According to Autoblog, however, for the extended warranty of up to 10 years or 150,000 kilometres, Kia requires the last service to have been carried out by a Kia dealer.

Do you also inspect the hybrid and electric Niro?

Yes. The APK costs € 50. On the Niro hybrid, the petrol engine gets an emissions test. The electric Niro, EV3 and EV6 do not get an emissions test.

What should I look out for on an older Picanto?

On an older Picanto, the tyres, brakes, lights and rust on load-bearing parts are the main things the APK looks at. Check the lights and the tread on the tyres yourself beforehand.

How much does an APK for my Kia cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol Kia, a petrol hybrid or an electric Kia, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my Kia?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my Kia fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your Kia failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.
