The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your Volvo costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your Volvo in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Why have your Volvo inspected at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. Our qualified inspectors check your Volvo against the legal APK requirements. You know the cost of the inspection in advance.

Many Volvo cars stay on the road for a long time, and we still see a lot of older V70 and V50 models. On plug-in hybrids we look out for the battery recall, and on the automatic gearbox for how it changes gear.

What do we check during the APK for your Volvo?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a Volvo, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • Plug-in hybrid recall: according to Electrive, in 2025 Volvo recalled plug-in hybrid versions of the S60, S90, V60, V90, XC60 and XC90 built from 2020 to 2022. The battery can short-circuit. Volvo advises owners not to charge the car until a dealer has checked it. If you are not sure, we can help you check whether your car is affected.
  • Automatic gearbox (Geartronic): many Volvo models have a Geartronic automatic gearbox. If it judders or changes gear slowly, have it checked. Read more about flushing the Volvo automatic gearbox (in Dutch).
  • Older V70, V50 and XC70: according to RDW APK data processed by Autozine, tyres with too little tread, wrongly adjusted dipped headlights and a broken number plate light are common reasons for a V70 to fail. On older models we also look out for rust, brake pipes and the exhaust.
  • Diesel with a DPF: on a Volvo diesel with a factory-fitted DPF (diesel particulate filter), such as most D3, D4 and D5 models from about 2010, the particle counter test is part of the APK. A removed DPF means the car fails. A blocked DPF can also lead to a fail.
  • Electric: the EX30, EX40 and EC40 do not get an emissions test. These cars mainly use the electric motor to brake, so the brake discs get little use and can rust.

Servicing your Volvo with us

We service your Volvo according to the manufacturer’s schedule, with oil that meets the specified Volvo standard. On a plug-in hybrid, we also check the cooling and the charging cable. You do not need to go to the dealer for servicing.

  • Following the Volvo schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: having your car serviced by an independent garage does not automatically end your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. We record the service in our system and you get an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Volvo Recharge, EX30 and EX40

Plug-in hybrids such as the XC40 Recharge (T4 or T5) and the XC60 and XC90 Recharge (T6 or T8), and electric models such as the EX30, EX40 and EC40, can all come to us for the APK and servicing. A fully electric Volvo does not get an emissions test. On a plug-in hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

Frequently asked questions about the APK for your Volvo

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

How do I know if my Volvo plug-in hybrid is part of the recall?

That depends on the model and the year it was built. According to Electrive, it concerns plug-in hybrid versions of the S60, S90, V60, V90, XC60 and XC90 built from 2020 to 2022. You can use your registration number to check with the RDW or a Volvo dealer whether your car is affected. The dealer carries out the fix free of charge.

Do you also inspect an older Volvo V70 or V50?

Yes. In fact, we see a lot of older Volvo cars. We pay extra attention to the tyres, lights, rust, brake pipes and the exhaust. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Do you also inspect the electric EX30?

Yes. The APK for an electric Volvo costs € 50. There is no emissions test. We do pay extra attention to the tyres, brakes and suspension.

How much does an APK for my Volvo cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol Volvo, a petrol hybrid or an electric Volvo, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my Volvo?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my Volvo fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your Volvo failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.
