The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, your Land Rover gets a minor or major service according to the manufacturer’s service schedule. If your Land Rover is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, the warranty stays valid as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule, even if you do not go to the dealer.

The price depends on the model, the engine and the mileage. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number and mileage, and we will tell you in advance what the service costs. You can also visit our workshop.

If you combine a major service with the APK (MOT), the inspection is free. You drop off your Land Rover Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am. If extra work is needed, we call you first.

Why have your Land Rover serviced at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. We service your Land Rover to the manufacturer’s specification, with parts and oil that suit your car.

Many Land Rovers are heavy and have air suspension, four-wheel drive and a ZF automatic gearbox. We pay attention to these at every service. Many Defenders and Discoverys are registered with a grey number plate. We service those too, as vans up to 3,500 kg.

What servicing does the manufacturer specify for your Land Rover?

Land Rover sets a service schedule for each engine, with an interval in kilometres and a time limit in years. Whichever comes first applies.

Land Rover specifies its own oil standard for each engine, the STJLR standard. On many 2.0 diesels (Ingenium), for example, that is 0W-30 oil to STJLR.03.5007. Oil with a different standard does not fit the schedule. We use the oil specified for your engine.

We use your registration number to look up which service your Land Rover needs and, where possible, we read the service indicator. After the service, we reset the service reminder, if our equipment can do this.

Minor or major service for your Land Rover?

Which service your car needs depends on the model, the engine, the age and the mileage. A minor and a major service usually include the following:

Part Minor service Major service
Engine oil and oil filter Change and replace Change and replace
Fluids Check and top up if needed Check, change the brake fluid if the schedule requires it
Brakes and tyres Check for wear Thorough check, including brake discs and brake pads
Filters Check Replace the air filter and cabin filter according to the schedule
Spark plugs (petrol) Not standard Replace at the manufacturer’s interval
Battery Check Test with a battery tester
Timing belt (if the engine has one) Not standard Check whether the belt is due for replacement at the set interval
APK Book separately Free if you combine it with a major service

Common Land Rover models and what we check during a service

These Land Rover models are the most common in the Netherlands, according to RDW open data. We can service all of these models.

Model Number in the Netherlands What we check during a service
Range Rover Evoque 12,388 On the 2.0 diesel (Ingenium): change the oil on time. From 2013 onwards, usually a nine-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Also brakes and tyres.
Range Rover Sport 11,175 Air suspension, the ZF automatic gearbox, brakes and, on a diesel, the diesel particulate filter (DPF).
Range Rover 6,824 Air suspension, an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox on newer cars, brakes and, on a diesel, the DPF.
Defender 6,713 Often with a grey number plate and heavy use: oil, brakes, suspension and the drivetrain.
Discovery Sport 3,926 On the 2.0 diesel (Ingenium): change the oil on time. Also the nine-speed ZF automatic gearbox, brakes and tyres.
Range Rover Velar 3,899 On the 2.0 diesel (Ingenium): change the oil on time. Also the air suspension and the ZF automatic gearbox.
Discovery 2,531 Air suspension, brakes and, on the diesel, the DPF. Often with a grey number plate.
Freelander 2,223 Older car: oil, leaks, the drive to the rear axle, and rust.
Series 88 and 109 1,353 Classic: oil in the engine, gearbox and axles, the chassis, rust and the brake lines.

What do we check when servicing your Land Rover?

At every service we follow the manufacturer’s schedule. For your Land Rover, we also pay extra attention to these points:

  • 2.0 diesel engine (Ingenium): according to Autoblog.it, the balance shaft bearings on this engine can wear from 2015 onwards. Short trips make this worse, because the DPF (which catches soot from the exhaust gases) cannot burn itself clean properly and diesel gets into the oil. When we change the oil, we use oil to the correct JLR standard. It also helps to take a longer drive now and then.
  • ZF automatic gearbox: the Evoque from 2013 and the Discovery Sport usually have a nine-speed ZF automatic. Newer Range Rovers, the Range Rover Sport from 2013, the Discovery from 2017 and the new Defender have an eight-speed ZF automatic. During the service we check for leaks and how the gearbox shifts.
  • Air suspension: many Range Rovers and Discoverys have air suspension. If the car sits lower on one side or a warning light comes on, tell us when you bring the car in for its service. We read the fault codes.
  • Grey number plate: a Defender or Discovery with a grey number plate counts as a van up to 3,500 kg. It often carries heavy loads or tows a trailer. We then take a closer look at the brakes, the suspension and the tow bar.
  • Classic Land Rovers: on a Series 88 or 109, we check the chassis for rust and look at the brake lines and any leaks from the engine, gearbox and axles.

Also read about the APK for a van and reading fault codes (in Dutch), for example on the air suspension.

Servicing a plug-in hybrid Land Rover

The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport P400e and P440e and the Evoque and Discovery Sport P300e are plug-in hybrids. The petrol engine gets oil and filters according to the Land Rover schedule, even if you drive mostly on electric power. Because these cars often brake using the electric motor, the brake discs get little use and can rust. We also check the battery cooling.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they are trained to work safely on the high-voltage systems of hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

How much does a service for your Land Rover cost?

The price of a service differs from car to car. The model, the engine, the specified oil and the mileage determine what needs to be done and which parts are needed. That is why we do not give an amount on this page.

  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give your registration number and mileage. We tell you straight away what the service costs, including VAT.
  • You can also drop in: visit our workshop at Boterdiep 11. We look at your Land Rover and tell you on the spot what the service costs.
  • Extra work: if we find something during the service that was not part of the agreement, we call you first. We only do extra work with your approval.
  • Free APK: if you have the APK for your Land Rover done together with a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.

Does the manufacturer’s warranty on your Land Rover stay valid?

Yes. Having your car serviced at an independent garage does not void your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts and oil. This follows from the European rules for the motor industry. Extra warranties or mobility services from the brand may be linked to servicing at a dealer. We record the service in our system and, if you have a service book, in that too. You receive an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
