The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, your Volvo gets a minor or major service according to the manufacturer’s service schedule. If your Volvo is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, the warranty stays valid as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule, even if you do not go to the dealer.

The price depends on the model, the engine and the mileage. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number and mileage, and we will tell you in advance what the service costs. You can also visit our workshop.

If you combine a major service with the APK (MOT), the inspection is free. You drop off your Volvo Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am. If extra work is needed, we call you first.

Why have your Volvo serviced at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. We service your Volvo to the manufacturer’s specifications, with parts and oil that suit your car.

Many Volvos keep going for a long time, and we still see a lot of older V70s and V50s. We know the five-cylinder engines, the Drive-E engines, the Geartronic automatic and the Volvo plug-in hybrids. We also know which plug-in hybrids are part of the Volvo recall.

What servicing does the manufacturer specify for your Volvo?

Volvo sets a service schedule for each model and engine. A service is usually due after a year or after a set number of kilometres, whichever comes first. Newer Volvos show on the dashboard when the service is due. We use your registration number to look up the schedule for your Volvo.

For many newer Volvos, Volvo specifies engine oil to the VCC RBS0-2AE specification, with a 0W-20 viscosity. Volvo states that the right oil is a condition for the service intervals and the warranty. Older Volvos sometimes need a different oil. We look up the right oil for your engine.

We use your registration number to look up which service your Volvo needs and, where possible, we read the service indicator. After the service, we reset the service reminder, if our equipment can do this.

Minor or major service for your Volvo?

Which service your car needs depends on the model, the engine, the age and the mileage. A minor and a major service usually include the following:

What do we check when servicing your Volvo?

At every service we follow the manufacturer’s schedule. For your Volvo, we also pay extra attention to these points:

  • Oil to Volvo specification: for many engines, Volvo specifies oil to the VCC RBS0-2AE specification. Volvo also advises against oil additives. We use the oil that Volvo specifies for your engine.
  • Timing belt: many Volvo engines have a timing belt, including the four-cylinder Drive-E engines. If the belt breaks, the engine can be badly damaged. We look up the interval and tell you in advance when the belt is due.
  • Plug-in hybrid recall: according to Electrive, in 2025 Volvo recalled plug-in hybrid versions of the S60, S90, V60, V90, XC60 and XC90 built from 2020 to 2022. The battery can short-circuit. You can use your registration number to check with the RDW or a Volvo dealer whether your car is affected. The dealer carries out the repair.
  • Geartronic automatic: many Volvos have a Geartronic automatic. If it jerks or shifts slowly, mention it when you bring the car in for its service. At high mileage, changing the gearbox oil can help.
  • Diesel with DPF: a D3, D4 or D5 often has a DPF (diesel particulate filter). If you mainly make short trips, the filter can fill up faster. We check the filter and the fault codes during the service.

Servicing a Volvo Recharge, EX30 or EX40

The electric EX30, EX40 and EC40 have no engine oil, spark plugs or timing belt. They still need servicing: brakes, brake fluid, tyres, suspension, cabin filter and battery cooling, according to the Volvo schedule. On a plug-in hybrid, such as the XC40 Recharge or the XC60 and XC90 T8, the petrol engine gets oil and filters according to the schedule. Because these cars mainly use the electric motor to brake, the brake discs can rust.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they are trained to work safely on the high-voltage systems of hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

How much does a service for your Volvo cost?

The price of a service differs from car to car. The model, the engine, the specified oil and the mileage determine what needs to be done and which parts are needed. That is why we do not give an amount on this page.

  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give your registration number and mileage. We tell you straight away what the service costs, including VAT.
  • You can also drop in: visit our workshop at Boterdiep 11. We look at your Volvo and tell you on the spot what the service costs.
  • Extra work: if we find something during the service that was not part of the agreement, we call you first. We only do extra work with your approval.
  • Free APK: if you have the APK for your Volvo done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.

Does the manufacturer’s warranty on your Volvo stay valid?

Yes. Having your car serviced at an independent garage does not void your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts and oil. This follows from the European rules for the motor industry. Extra warranties or mobility services from the brand may be linked to servicing at a dealer. We record the service in our system and, if you have a service book, in that too. You receive an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.

Frequently asked questions about servicing your Volvo

No need to click: all the answers below are already open for you.

Which oil goes in my Volvo?

Your engine gets oil to the specification that Volvo sets. For many newer Volvos, that is VCC RBS0-2AE with a 0W-20 viscosity. Older Volvos sometimes need a different oil. We look it up using your registration number.

Does my Volvo have a timing belt or a timing chain?

That depends on the engine. Many Volvo engines have a timing belt, including the Drive-E engines. We use your registration number to look up which engine your Volvo has and when the belt needs replacing.

Do you also service an older V70 or V50?

Yes. We see a lot of older Volvos in particular. We pay extra attention to the timing belt, the suspension, rust and the exhaust.

How much does a service for my Volvo cost?

It depends on the model, the engine and the mileage. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number and mileage, and we will tell you in advance what the service costs, including VAT. You can also visit our workshop. If you combine a major service with the APK, the inspection is free.

Will my manufacturer’s warranty be void if you service my Volvo?

No. Having your car serviced at an independent garage does not void your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts and oil. Extra warranties or mobility services from the brand may be linked to servicing at a dealer. You receive an invoice listing all the work.

Can I wait while you do the service?

No. You drop off your Volvo Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am. A minor service is often ready within a few hours. We call you when the car is ready.
