The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your Ford costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your Ford in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

What do we check during the APK for your Ford?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a Ford, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • 1.0 EcoBoost with a wet belt: most 1.0 EcoBoost engines, found in the Fiesta, Focus and Puma among others, have a belt that runs in the engine oil. Test Aankoop lists complaints about a worn belt that led to engine damage. We check the oil level and advise you about the belt.   • PowerShift automatic gearbox: the PowerShift automatic gearbox in the Fiesta and Focus from about 2011 to 2016 is known for juddering and hesitating when it changes gear. In the United States it even led to a lawsuit. Read more about the PowerShift gearbox (in Dutch).
  • Recall for the plug-in hybrid Kuga: according to Radar, about 16,000 plug-in hybrid Kugas in the Netherlands must not be charged until their software has been updated. This concerns cars built from August 2019 to November 2023. The update has been available from Ford dealers since May 2025.
  • Diesel with a DPF: on a TDCi or EcoBlue with a factory-fitted DPF (diesel particulate filter), the particle counter test is part of the APK. A removed DPF means the car fails. A blocked DPF can also lead to a fail.

Servicing your Ford with us

We service your Ford according to the manufacturer’s schedule. On the 1.0 EcoBoost we use oil that meets the specified Ford standard, because the right oil protects the wet belt. You do not need to go to the dealer for servicing.

  • Following the Ford schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: having your car serviced by an independent garage does not automatically end your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. We record the service in our system and you get an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Ford Kuga plug-in hybrid and Mustang Mach-E

The plug-in hybrid Kuga and Explorer and the electric Mustang Mach-E can all come to us for the APK and servicing. An electric Ford does not get an emissions test. On a plug-in hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

Ford Transit

Do you drive a Ford Transit, Transit Custom or Transit Connect up to 3,500 kg with a grey number plate? Then the APK for vans applies: € 125. Does my Ford have a wet timing belt?

Yes. If your Ford has the 1.0 EcoBoost petrol engine, it has a wet belt. This engine is fitted to many Fiesta, Focus, C-Max and Puma models. Other Ford three-cylinder engines, such as the 1.5 EcoBoost, also have a wet belt. We can look it up for you with your registration number and check the oil level.

My automatic Fiesta judders. What could be causing it?

It could be the PowerShift automatic gearbox. On a Fiesta or Focus with this gearbox, from about 2011 to 2016, juddering and hesitating are more common. We first find out what the cause is. We tell you in advance what the diagnosis and any repair will cost.

Can I charge my plug-in hybrid Kuga again?

Yes. You can charge it again once the recall software update has been carried out. According to Radar, the update has been available from Ford dealers since May 2025. You can come to us for the APK. The petrol engine then gets an emissions test.

How much does an APK for my Ford cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol Ford, a petrol hybrid or an electric Ford, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The APK for a Ford van with a grey number plate costs € 125. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my Ford?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my Ford fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your Ford failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.

Where are you based and where do your customers come from?

Our workshop is at Boterdiep 11 in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, close to Stadion Feijenoord (De Kuip). Our customers come from all over Rotterdam, including Centrum, Kralingen-Crooswijk, Hillegersberg-Schiebroek, Delfshaven and IJsselmonde, and from Barendrecht, Ridderkerk, Schiedam, Capelle aan den IJssel and Delft. You can park for free in front of the garage if there is space.
