The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your Renault costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your Renault in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Why have your Renault inspected at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. Our qualified inspectors check your Renault against the legal APK requirements. You know the cost of the inspection in advance.

We know the Renault models you see a lot in Rotterdam, such as the Clio, Twingo and Captur. On older 1.2 TCe petrol engines we keep an eye on oil consumption, and on automatics we look out for gear change problems.

What do we check during the APK for your Renault?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a Renault, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • Oil consumption on the 1.2 TCe: according to Autoblog, about 400,000 cars with the 1.2 TCe petrol engine from 2012 to 2016 had high oil consumption, including the Clio and Captur. Check the oil level regularly. Too little oil can cause engine damage.
  • EDC automatic: the EDC is a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Does the gearbox judder when you pull away, or is it slow to change gear? The APK does not cover this, but it is worth having it checked in good time. Read more about flushing the Renault automatic gearbox (in Dutch).
  • Diesel engines with a DPF: on a Renault diesel with a factory-fitted DPF (diesel particulate filter), the particle counter test is part of the APK. A blocked or damaged DPF can lead to a fail.
  • Electric and hybrid: the Zoe and Mégane E-Tech Electric do not get an emissions test. On the Clio and Captur E-Tech Hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Servicing your Renault with us

We service your Renault according to the manufacturer’s schedule, with oil that meets the specified standard. On the 1.2 TCe, we also check the oil level and oil consumption at every service.

  • Following the Renault schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: having your car serviced by an independent garage does not automatically end your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. We record the service in our system and you get an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Read more about the service (in Dutch) and the major service (in Dutch). You can also read about flushing the Renault automatic gearbox (in Dutch).

Renault E-Tech and Zoe

The Zoe, the Mégane E-Tech Electric and the Clio and Captur E-Tech hybrids can all come to us for the APK and servicing. An electric car does not get an emissions test. On a hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

Frequently asked questions about the APK for your Renault

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

My Renault uses a lot of oil. Is that normal?

No. However, high oil consumption is more common on the 1.2 TCe petrol engine from 2012 to 2016, including on the Clio and Captur. Check the oil level regularly and top it up if needed. During a service, we can measure how much oil the engine uses.

Do you also inspect the electric Zoe?

Yes. The APK for an electric Renault costs € 50. There is no emissions test. We do pay extra attention to the tyres, brakes and suspension.

My Renault automatic gearbox judders. What can I do?

Juddering or slow gear changes can be caused by old or dirty oil. A flush with new oil often helps. We first check whether this makes sense for your gearbox.

How much does an APK for my Renault cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol Renault, a petrol hybrid or an electric Renault, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The APK for a Renault van with a grey number plate costs € 125. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my Renault?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my Renault fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your Renault failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.
