The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your Skoda costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your Skoda in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Why have your Skoda inspected at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. Our qualified inspectors check your Skoda against the legal APK requirements. You know in advance what the inspection costs.

A Skoda uses Volkswagen Group technology, which we know well. On older TSI engines we pay attention to the timing chain, and on the DSG automatic gearbox to gear change problems. Octavias and Superbs often cover a lot of kilometres, for example as taxis or lease cars.

What do we check during the APK for your Skoda?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a Skoda, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • Chain on the older 1.2 and 1.4 TSI: the 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI from about 2007 to 2012 have a timing chain. According to Autohled, it can start to rattle when the chain tensioner is worn, often between 60,000 and 100,000 kilometres. If you hear a rattling noise on a cold start, have it checked. Most newer TSI engines have a timing belt. The 1.8 and 2.0 TSI do have a chain.
  • Seven-speed DSG automatic: many models have a DSG automatic gearbox with two clutches. The seven-speed version (DQ200) had problems with juddering and faults. According to Auto Bild, from late 2013 the manufacturer changed the oil on cars built from 2008 up to and including May 2011 and from October 2012 up to and including April 2013. If the gearbox judders when you pull away, have it checked. Read more about the DSG gearbox (in Dutch).
  • High mileage: an Octavia or Superb that has been used as a taxi or lease car often has a lot of kilometres on the clock. During the APK, we pay extra attention to the brakes, suspension, steering and the rubber CV boots on the driveshafts.
  • Diesel with a DPF: on a TDI with a factory-fitted DPF (diesel particulate filter), the particle counter test is part of the APK. A removed DPF means the car fails. A blocked DPF can also lead to a fail.
  • Electric and plug-in hybrid: the Enyaq, Elroq and Citigo e iV do not get an emissions test. On a plug-in hybrid, such as the Octavia iV or Superb iV, the petrol engine gets an emissions test.

Servicing your Skoda with us

We service your Skoda according to the manufacturer’s schedule, with oil that meets the specified VW standard. A Skoda shows a message when it is due for a service. You do not need to go to the dealer for servicing.

  • Following the Skoda schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: having your car serviced by an independent garage does not automatically end your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. We record the service in our system and you get an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Read more about the service (in Dutch) and the major service (in Dutch). You can also read about the DSG gearbox (in Dutch) and replacing the timing belt (in Dutch).

Skoda Enyaq, Elroq and iV

The electric Enyaq, Elroq and Citigo e iV, and plug-in hybrids such as the Octavia iV and Superb iV, can all come to us for the APK and servicing. A fully electric Skoda does not get an emissions test. On a plug-in hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

Frequently asked questions about the APK for your Skoda

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

Does my Skoda have a timing belt or a chain?

That depends on the engine. The 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI from about 2007 to 2012 have a chain. Most later TSI engines have a belt. The 1.8 and 2.0 TSI do have a chain. We can look it up for you with your registration number. If your car has a belt, we will tell you when it needs replacing.

My Skoda has a high mileage. What do you check during the APK?

With a high mileage, we pay extra attention to the brakes, suspension, steering, CV boots and tyres. On a diesel, we also check the DPF. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Do you also inspect the electric Enyaq and Elroq?

Yes. The APK for an electric Skoda costs € 50. There is no emissions test. We do pay extra attention to the tyres, brakes and suspension.

How much does an APK for my Skoda cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol Skoda, a petrol hybrid or an electric Skoda, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my Skoda?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my Skoda fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your Skoda failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.
