The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, your BYD gets a minor or major service according to the manufacturer’s service schedule. If your BYD is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, the warranty stays valid as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule, even if you do not go to the dealer.

The price depends on the model, the engine and the mileage. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number and mileage, and we will tell you in advance what the service costs. You can also visit our workshop.

If you combine a major service with the APK (MOT), the inspection is free. You drop off your BYD Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am. If extra work is needed, we call you first.

Why have your BYD serviced at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. We service your BYD to the manufacturer’s specification, with parts and oil that suit your car.

BYD is a new brand in the Netherlands, but there are already many BYDs on the road. A BYD is either electric or a DM-i plug-in hybrid. We know both and follow the schedule for your BYD. You do not need to go to the dealer for servicing.

What servicing does the manufacturer specify for your BYD?

In the Netherlands, the fully electric BYD models have a service interval of two years or 30,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. This interval has applied since October 2024, including electric BYDs that were already on the road. Before that, it was one year or 20,000 kilometres.

A BYD with DM-i has a petrol engine as well as the electric motor. The petrol engine gets new oil and a new oil filter according to the BYD schedule, usually every year. If you drive mostly on electric power, the petrol engine runs very little. The oil still ages, so the service is still needed.

We use your registration number to look up which service your BYD needs and, where possible, we read the service indicator. After the service, we reset the service reminder, if our equipment can do this.

Minor or major service for your BYD?

Which service your car needs depends on the model, the engine, the age and the mileage. A minor and a major service usually include the following:

Part Minor service Major service
Engine oil and oil filter Change and replace Change and replace
Fluids Check and top up if needed Check, change the brake fluid if the schedule requires it
Brakes and tyres Check for wear Thorough check, including brake discs and brake pads
Filters Check Replace the air filter and cabin filter according to the schedule
Spark plugs (petrol) Not standard Replace at the manufacturer’s interval
Battery Check Test with a battery tester
Timing belt (if the engine has one) Not standard Check whether the belt is due for replacement at the set interval
APK Book separately Free if you combine it with a major service

Common BYD models and what we check during a service

These BYD models are the most common in the Netherlands, according to RDW open data. We can service all of these models.

Model Number in the Netherlands What we check during a service
Seal U DM-i 6,391 Plug-in hybrid: oil and oil filter for the petrol engine, brakes and tyres. The weight makes the tyres wear faster.
Atto 3 4,185 Electric: no engine oil, but brakes, brake fluid, tyres and cabin filter as scheduled.
Atto 2 DM-i 1,494 Plug-in hybrid: oil for the petrol engine, and the brakes. Brake discs that see little use can rust.
Seal U 1,391 Electric SUV: tyres, brakes and suspension. The weight makes the tyres wear faster.
Seal 1,250 Electric, also with all-wheel drive: tyres, brakes, brake fluid and cabin filter.
Dolphin 1,068 Electric: brakes, brake fluid, tyres and cabin filter according to the schedule.
Dolphin Surf 930 Small electric city car: tyres, brakes and cabin filter.

What do we check when servicing your BYD?

At every service we follow the manufacturer’s schedule. For your BYD, we also pay extra attention to these points:

  • Two years or 30,000 kilometres: in the Netherlands, an electric BYD needs a service once every two years or after 30,000 kilometres. We use your registration number to look up which service your car needs now.
  • DM-i and oil for the petrol engine: at BYD, DM-i means a plug-in hybrid with a petrol engine and a battery that you charge from a plug. The petrol engine gets oil, an oil filter and, later on, new spark plugs according to the BYD schedule.
  • Brakes: a BYD mainly brakes using the electric motor. This means the brake discs get little use and can rust. During the service, we clean and check the brakes. We change the brake fluid according to the schedule.
  • Tyres: an electric BYD is heavy and accelerates quickly. This makes the tyres wear faster. At every service, we measure the tread depth and the tyre pressure.
  • First APK after four years: an electric BYD or a BYD with DM-i needs its first APK when it is four years old. If you combine that APK with a major service, the APK is free.

Arrange a service for your BYD

Servicing an electric BYD or a DM-i

An electric BYD has no engine oil, spark plugs or timing belt. It still needs servicing: brakes, brake fluid, tyres, suspension and the cabin filter, according to the BYD schedule. On a DM-i, the petrol engine needs servicing as well, such as oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they are trained to work safely on the high-voltage systems of hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

How much does a service for your BYD cost?

The price of a service differs from car to car. The model, the engine, the specified oil and the mileage determine what needs to be done and which parts are needed. That is why we do not give an amount on this page.

  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give your registration number and mileage. We tell you straight away what the service costs, including VAT.
  • You can also drop in: visit our workshop at Boterdiep 11. We look at your BYD and tell you on the spot what the service costs.
  • Extra work: if we find something during the service that was not part of the agreement, we call you first. We only do extra work with your approval.
  • Free APK: if you have the APK for your BYD done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.

Does the manufacturer’s warranty on your BYD stay valid?

Yes. Having your car serviced at an independent garage does not void your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts and oil. This follows from the European rules for the motor industry. Extra warranties or mobility services from the brand may be linked to servicing at a dealer. We record the service in our system and, if you have a service book, in that too. You receive an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
