The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, your MG gets a minor or major service according to the manufacturer’s service schedule. If your MG is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, the warranty stays valid as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule, even if you do not go to the dealer.

The price depends on the model, the engine and the mileage. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number and mileage, and we will tell you in advance what the service costs. You can also visit our workshop.

If you combine a major service with the APK (MOT), the inspection is free. You drop off your MG Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am. If extra work is needed, we call you first.

Why have your MG serviced at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. We service your MG to the manufacturer’s specifications, with parts and oil that suit your car.

MG has two sides. The new MGs are often electric or hybrid. There are also still thousands of classic MGs on Dutch roads, such as the MGB. We service both. On a new MG, we take the MG warranty conditions into account.

What servicing does the manufacturer specify for your MG?

According to the MG warranty conditions, an MG registered from 2021 onwards has a manufacturer’s warranty of seven years or 150,000 kilometres. An independent garage may carry out the servicing. Each main service must take place within 1,500 kilometres or 28 days of the recommended time. MG also asks for parts of OE quality (the same quality as the original parts) and an invoice listing all the work carried out. For the rust warranty, MG does require a yearly check by an authorised MG repairer.

We follow those conditions. You get an itemised invoice, so your service history stays complete. On a classic MG, we carry out the servicing that suits the age of the car and how it is used.

We use your registration number to look up which service your MG needs and, where possible, we read the service indicator. After the service, we reset the service reminder, if our equipment can do this.

Minor or major service for your MG?

Which service your car needs depends on the model, the engine, the age and the mileage. A minor and a major service usually include the following:

Part Minor service Major service
Engine oil and oil filter Change and replace Change and replace
Fluids Check and top up if needed Check, change the brake fluid if the schedule requires it
Brakes and tyres Check for wear Thorough check, including brake discs and brake pads
Filters Check Replace the air filter and cabin filter according to the schedule
Spark plugs (petrol) Not standard Replace at the manufacturer’s interval
Battery Check Test with a battery tester
Timing belt (if the engine has one) Not standard Check whether the belt is due for replacement at the set interval
APK Book separately Free if you combine it with a major service

Common MG models and what we check during a service

These MG models are the most common in the Netherlands, according to RDW open data. We can service all of these models.

Model Number in the Netherlands What we check during a service
ZS EV 8,001 Electric: no engine oil, but brakes, brake fluid, tyres, cabin filter and the battery cooling.
MG4 Electric 5,781 Electric: no engine oil, but brakes, brake fluid, tyres and the battery cooling. The tyres wear faster because of the weight.
MGB 4,576 Classic: oil, lubrication points, rust on the floor and sills, brake lines and the exhaust.
MG5 Electric 2,916 Electric estate: brakes, brake fluid, tyres, cabin filter and the battery cooling.
MG3 Hybrid+ 1,843 Petrol hybrid: oil and filters for the petrol engine. The brake discs get little use and can rust.
EHS Plug-in Hybrid 1,443 Plug-in hybrid: oil for the petrol engine, even if you drive mostly on electric power. Also the brakes and the battery cooling.
MGF 1,435 K-series engine: cooling system and coolant, timing belt and water pump. Also the suspension and rust.
ZS 1,248 Petrol: oil according to the schedule, brakes and tyres. On an automatic, we check how the gearbox shifts.
HS 936 Petrol or plug-in hybrid: oil according to the schedule, brakes and tyres. On an automatic, we check how the gearbox shifts.
TF 853 K-series engine: cooling system and coolant, timing belt and water pump. Also the suspension and rust.
Midget 719 Classic: oil, lubrication points, rust on the floor, brake lines and the exhaust.

What do we check when servicing your MG?

At every service we follow the manufacturer’s schedule. For your MG, we also pay extra attention to these points:

  • MG warranty conditions: have the main service done on time, within 1,500 kilometres or 28 days of the recommended time. Keep the itemised invoice. That way you meet the conditions of the manufacturer’s warranty. For the rust warranty, MG also requires a yearly check by an authorised MG repairer.
  • Electric MGs: the ZS EV, MG4, MG5 and Marvel R have no engine oil. Because these cars often use the electric motor to brake, the brake discs get little use and can rust. The tyres wear faster because of the weight.
  • Hybrid and plug-in hybrid: on the MG3 Hybrid+, ZS Hybrid+ and EHS, the petrol engine gets oil and filters according to the schedule, even if you drive mostly on electric power.
  • MGF and TF with the K-series engine: on the K-series, a cooling system in good working order is important. We check the cooling system, the coolant level and any leaks. The engine has a timing belt. We replace it together with the water pump, if you wish.
  • Classic MGs: on an MGB or Midget, we look at the oil, lubrication points, rust on the floor and sills, the brake lines and the exhaust.

Also read about replacing the brakes (in Dutch) and replacing the timing belt (in Dutch), for example on the MGF and TF.

Servicing your hybrid or electric MG

An electric MG has no engine oil, spark plugs or timing belt. It still needs servicing, though: brakes, brake fluid, tyres, suspension, cabin filter and the battery cooling, according to the MG schedule. On the MG3 Hybrid+, ZS Hybrid+ and EHS Plug-in Hybrid, the petrol engine gets oil and filters according to the schedule.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they are trained to work safely on the high-voltage systems of hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

How much does a service for your MG cost?

The price of a service differs from car to car. The model, the engine, the specified oil and the mileage determine what needs to be done and which parts are needed. That is why we do not give an amount on this page.

  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give your registration number and mileage. We tell you straight away what the service costs, including VAT.
  • You can also drop in: visit our workshop at Boterdiep 11. We look at your MG and tell you on the spot what the service costs.
  • Extra work: if we find something during the service that was not part of the agreement, we call you first. We only do extra work with your approval.
  • Free APK: if you have the APK for your MG done together with a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.

Does the manufacturer’s warranty on your MG stay valid?

Yes. Having your car serviced at an independent garage does not void your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts and oil. This follows from the European rules for the motor industry. Extra warranties or mobility services from the brand may be linked to servicing at a dealer. We record the service in our system and, if you have a service book, in that too. You receive an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.

Frequently asked questions about servicing your MG

No need to click: all the answers below are already open for you.

Will my MG warranty become void if you service my car?

No. According to the MG warranty conditions, an independent garage may carry out the servicing. Do have the main service done within 1,500 kilometres or 28 days of the recommended time. We give you an itemised invoice. Keep it in a safe place.

Does my electric MG4 need a service too?

Yes. An electric MG has no engine oil, but it does have brakes, brake fluid, tyres, a cabin filter and battery cooling. MG sets a service schedule for these. We follow that schedule.

Do you also service a classic MGB or Midget?

Yes. We look at the oil, lubrication points, rust on the floor and sills, the brake lines and the exhaust. If a repair is needed, you hear first what it costs.

It depends on the model, the engine and the mileage. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number and mileage, and we will tell you in advance what the service costs, including VAT. You can also visit our workshop. If you combine a major service with the APK, the inspection is free.
