The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, your Mini gets a minor or major service according to the manufacturer’s service schedule. If your Mini is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, the warranty stays valid as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule, even if you do not go to the dealer.

The price depends on the model, the engine and the mileage. Call +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number and mileage, and we will tell you in advance what the service costs. You can also visit our workshop.

If you combine a major service with the APK (MOT), the inspection is free. You drop off your Mini Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am, or on Saturday at 9.00 am. If extra work is needed, we call you first.

Why have your Mini serviced at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. We service your Mini to the manufacturer’s specifications, with parts and oil that suit your car.

A modern Mini, built from 2001 onwards, uses BMW technology. We know the service system, the turbo engines and the run-flat tyres. We also service the classic Mini.

What servicing does the manufacturer specify for your Mini?

A modern Mini uses Condition Based Service (CBS). This means servicing based on the condition of the car. The car keeps track of the engine oil and of wear, and reports which parts are due. There are also services that are due after a fixed time or a fixed number of kilometres.

Mini specifies oil to a BMW specification, such as Longlife-01 or Longlife-04. The specification your engine needs depends on the engine and the year of manufacture. We use the oil that is right for your Mini.

We use your registration number to look up which service your Mini needs and, where possible, we read the service indicator. After the service, we reset the service reminder, if our equipment can do this.

Minor or major service for your Mini?

Which service your car needs depends on the model, the engine, the age and the mileage. A minor and a major service usually include the following:

Part Minor service Major service
Engine oil and oil filter Change and replace Change and replace
Fluids Check and top up if needed Check, change the brake fluid if the schedule requires it
Brakes and tyres Check for wear Thorough check, including brake discs and brake pads
Filters Check Replace the air filter and cabin filter according to the schedule
Spark plugs (petrol) Not standard Replace at the manufacturer’s interval
Battery Check Test with a battery tester
Timing belt (if the engine has one) Not standard Check whether the belt is due for replacement at the set interval
APK Book separately Free if you combine it with a major service

Common Mini models and what we check during a service

These Mini models are the most common in the Netherlands, according to RDW open data. We can service all of these models.

Model Number in the Netherlands What we check during a service
Cooper and One 97,577 Oil to BMW specification and the CBS reminders. On the Cooper S up to and including 2010, the timing chain. Often run-flat tyres.
Countryman 22,880 Oil, brakes and tyres. On ALL4 versions, the four-wheel drive system. On the plug-in hybrid, the brake discs can rust because they get little use.
Clubman 14,661 Oil to BMW specification, brakes and run-flat tyres. On an automatic, we check how the gearbox shifts.
Cooper SE and Cooper E 12,611 Electric: no engine oil, but brakes, brake fluid, tyres and cabin filter.
Aceman 3,202 Electric: no engine oil, but brakes, brake fluid, tyres and cabin filter.
Classic Mini 1000 2,336 Classic: the engine and gearbox share the same oil. Also rust on the floor and subframes, and the brake lines.

What do we check when servicing your Mini?

At every service we follow the manufacturer’s schedule. For your Mini, we also pay extra attention to these points:

  • CBS reminders: we read the CBS reminders, carry out the servicing that is due and then reset the reminders, if our equipment supports it. That way the service history of your Mini stays correct.
  • Oil to BMW specification: a Mini needs oil that meets BMW specification for its engine. We use that oil, so the servicing meets the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Timing chain on the older Cooper S: according to Autocar and PistonHeads, the chain tensioner (which keeps the chain tight) is a weak point on the 1.6 turbo engine in the Cooper S up to and including 2010. The chain can then start to rattle and, in the worst case, jump a tooth. From 2011, the engine got an improved chain tensioner. If you hear a rattling noise on a cold start, mention it at the service.
  • Run-flat tyres: many Minis run on run-flat tyres. With this type of tyre, you can keep driving for some distance after a puncture. There is no spare wheel. We check the tread depth, any damage and the tyre pressures.
  • Classic Mini: on a classic Mini, the engine and gearbox share the same oil. That oil therefore deserves extra attention. We also check for rust on the floor and subframes, and look at the brake lines.

Servicing your hybrid or electric Mini

The electric Cooper SE, Cooper E and Aceman have no engine oil, spark plugs or timing belt. They still need servicing, though: brakes, brake fluid, tyres, suspension and the cabin filter, according to the CBS reminders. Because these cars mainly use the electric motor to brake, the brake discs can start to rust. On the Countryman plug-in hybrid, the petrol engine gets oil and filters according to the schedule.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they are trained to work safely on the high-voltage systems of hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

How much does a service for your Mini cost?

The price of a service differs from car to car. The model, the engine, the specified oil and the mileage determine what needs to be done and which parts are needed. That is why we do not give an amount on this page.

  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give your registration number and mileage. We tell you straight away what the service costs, including VAT.
  • You can also drop in: visit our workshop at Boterdiep 11. We look at your Mini and tell you on the spot what the service costs.
  • Extra work: if we find something during the service that was not part of the agreement, we call you first. We only do extra work with your approval.
  • Free APK: if you have the APK for your Mini done together with a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.

Does the manufacturer’s warranty on your Mini stay valid?

Yes. Having your car serviced at an independent garage does not void your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the servicing follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts and oil. This follows from the European rules for the motor industry. Extra warranties or mobility services from the brand may be linked to servicing at a dealer. We record the service in our system and, if you have a service book, in that too. You receive an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
