The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your Mini costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your Mini in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

A modern Mini, built from 2001 onwards, uses BMW technology. We know it well. On the older Cooper S, we pay attention to the timing chain. Many Minis run on run-flat tyres. A modern Mini shows a message when it is due for a service. We follow that message and the Mini schedule.

What do we check during the APK for your Mini?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a Mini, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • Timing chain on the older Cooper S: according to Autocar, the timing chain on the 1.6 turbo engine of the Cooper S up to 2010 could skip a tooth. This chain makes sure the valves open at the right moment. From 2011, the engine got a new chain tensioner. If you hear a rattling noise on a cold start, have it checked.
  • Run-flat tyres: many Minis run on run-flat tyres. With these, you can drive on for some distance after a puncture, so there is no spare wheel. During the APK we check the tread and any damage. If new tyres are needed, we choose the right size and type.
  • Plug-in hybrid and electric: on the Countryman Cooper SE ALL4, the petrol engine gets an emissions test. The electric Cooper SE, Cooper E and Aceman do not get an emissions test. These cars mainly use the electric motor to brake, so the brake discs get little use and can rust.
  • Classic Mini: we also welcome a classic Mini with a Dutch number plate. On these cars, we pay extra attention to rust on the floor and the subframes, and to the brake pipes.

Servicing your Mini with us

We service your Mini following the manufacturer’s schedule, with oil that meets the specified BMW standard. Your Mini shows which service it needs. You do not need to go to the dealer for servicing.

  • Following the Mini schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: having your car serviced by an independent garage does not automatically end your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. We record the service in our system and you get an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.

Electric Mini and plug-in hybrid

We can do the APK and servicing on the electric Cooper SE, Cooper E and Aceman and the plug-in hybrid Countryman. An electric Mini does not get an emissions test. On a plug-in hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

My Cooper S rattles on a cold start. What could it be?

On the Cooper S up to 2010, this can point to the timing chain or the chain tensioner. Have it checked before the damage gets worse. We tell you in advance what the diagnosis and any repair will cost.

My Mini has run-flat tyres. Is that a problem for the APK?

No. Run-flat tyres are inspected like other tyres: for tread, damage and the correct size. If new tyres are needed, we make sure they are the right type for your Mini.

Do you also inspect the electric Cooper SE?

Yes. The APK for an electric Mini costs € 50. There is no emissions test. We do pay extra attention to the tyres, brakes and suspension.

How much does an APK for my Mini cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol Mini, a petrol hybrid or an electric Mini, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my Mini?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my Mini fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your Mini failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.

Where are you based and where do your customers come from?

Our workshop is at Boterdiep 11 in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde, close to Stadion Feijenoord (De Kuip). Our customers come from all over Rotterdam, including Centrum, Kralingen-Crooswijk, Hillegersberg-Schiebroek, Delfshaven and IJsselmonde, and from Barendrecht, Ridderkerk, Schiedam, Capelle aan den IJssel and Delft. You can park for free in front of the garage if there is space.
