The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your Fiat costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your Fiat in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Why have your Fiat inspected at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. Our qualified inspectors check your Fiat against the legal APK requirements. You know in advance what the inspection costs.

The Fiat 500 and Panda are small cars that you see a lot in Rotterdam. We know them well. On the 1.2 petrol engine we keep an eye on the timing belt, and on the Panda we check the handbrake cables.

What do we check during the APK for your Fiat?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a Fiat, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • Timing belt on the 1.2: the 500 and Panda with the 1.2 petrol engine have a timing belt. According to the Fiat schedule, it needs replacing about every 100,000 kilometres or every five years, whichever comes first. We use your registration number to look up the correct interval. Many Fiats do a low mileage. If yours does, pay particular attention to the age of the belt. Read more about replacing the timing belt (in Dutch).
  • TwinAir with a timing chain: the 0.9 TwinAir in the 500 and Panda has a timing chain, not a belt. That saves on maintenance, but the engine does need oil that meets the specified standard.
  • Handbrake cables on the Panda: according to RDW APK data processed by Autozine, a worn handbrake cable is a common serious defect on the Panda from 2012 to 2018. If the handbrake pulls to one side or does not hold the car properly, have it checked.
  • Dualogic automatic: some 500s and Pandas have a Dualogic. This is a manual gearbox where the car works the clutch and changes gear for you. If it judders or refuses to engage a gear, have it checked.
  • Electric: the 500e and 600e do not get an emissions test. We do pay extra attention to the tyres, brakes and suspension.

Servicing your Fiat with us

We service your Fiat according to the manufacturer’s schedule, with oil and parts that suit your car. At every service we also check when the timing belt needs replacing.

  • Following the Fiat schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: having your car serviced by an independent garage does not automatically end your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. We record the service in our system and you get an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Read more about servicing your Fiat, car servicing for all makes and the major service (in Dutch). You can also read about replacing the timing belt (in Dutch).

Fiat 500e and 600e

We can do the APK and servicing on the electric 500e and 600e. An electric car does not get an emissions test. We do pay extra attention to the tyres, brakes and suspension.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

Fiat Doblò and Ducato

Do you drive a Fiat Doblò or Ducato with a grey number plate? Then the APK for vans applies: € 125. If your Ducato is a motorhome up to 3,500 kg, the APK costs € 100 to € 125. Read more about the APK for a van and about the APK for a motorhome. You can also read about replacing the timing belt on the Ducato (in Dutch).

Frequently asked questions about the APK for your Fiat

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

When does the timing belt on my Fiat 500 or Panda need replacing?

On the 1.2 petrol engine, the belt needs replacing about every 100,000 kilometres or every five years, whichever comes first. If your Fiat has the 0.9 TwinAir, the engine has a timing chain and there is no belt to replace. We can look it up for you with your registration number.

Why does the handbrake on a Panda often fail the APK?

On the Panda, the handbrake cables are a well-known APK issue. A cable can seize up with rust or stretch, so the handbrake no longer holds properly. We only replace the cables after you approve. We tell you the cost first.

Do you also inspect a Fiat Ducato motorhome?

Yes. We inspect motorhomes up to 3,500 kg. The APK for a motorhome costs € 100 to € 125. If your Ducato has a grey number plate, the APK costs € 125.

How much does an APK for my Fiat cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol Fiat, a petrol hybrid or an electric Fiat, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The APK for a Fiat van with a grey number plate costs € 125. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my Fiat?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my Fiat fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your Fiat failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.
