The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your BMW costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your BMW in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Why have your BMW inspected at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. Our qualified inspectors check your BMW against the legal APK requirements. You know in advance what the inspection costs.

A BMW shows a message when it is due for a service. We follow that message and the BMW schedule. During the APK, we pay extra attention to run-flat tyres and, on plug-in hybrids, to the brakes. On older diesels, we also listen for a rattling timing chain.

What do we check during the APK for your BMW?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a BMW, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • Run-flat tyres: many BMWs run on run-flat tyres. With these, you can drive on for some distance after a puncture, so there is no spare wheel. During the APK we check the tread and any damage. If new tyres are needed, we choose the right size and type for your BMW. Read more about replacing tyres (in Dutch).
  • Timing chain on older diesels: the N47 diesel engine, found in the 116d to 120d, 318d, 320d, 520d, X1 and X3 among others, is known for a timing chain that can start to rattle. BMW modified the engine in 2011. If you hear a rattling or whirring noise, have it checked.
  • Automatic gearbox: if the automatic gearbox judders or changes gear slowly, have it checked. Read more about flushing the BMW automatic gearbox (in Dutch).
  • Plug-in hybrid: on the 330e, X1 xDrive25e and X5 xDrive45e, the petrol engine gets an emissions test. Because these cars are often driven on electric power, the brake discs can rust.

Servicing your BMW with us

We service your BMW following the manufacturer’s schedule, with oil that meets the specified BMW standard. Your BMW shows which service it needs. You do not need to go to the dealer for servicing.

  • Following the BMW schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: having your car serviced by an independent garage does not automatically end your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. We record the service in our system and you get an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Read more about servicing your BMW, car servicing for all makes and the major service (in Dutch). You can also read about flushing the BMW automatic gearbox (in Dutch).

Plug-in hybrid and electric BMW

We can do the APK and servicing on plug-in hybrids such as the 330e, X1 xDrive25e and X5 xDrive45e, and on electric models such as the iX1 and iX3. A fully electric BMW does not get an emissions test. On a plug-in hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

Frequently asked questions about the APK for your BMW

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

My BMW has run-flat tyres. Is that a problem for the APK?

No. Run-flat tyres are inspected like other tyres: for tread, damage and the correct size. If new tyres are needed, we make sure they are the right type for your BMW.

My BMW diesel makes a rattling noise. What could it be?

On the N47 diesel engine, found in the 118d, 120d, 320d and 520d among others, this can point to a stretched timing chain. It mainly happens on engines from before 2011. Have it checked before the damage gets worse.

Do you also inspect an electric BMW?

Yes. The APK for an electric BMW, such as the iX1 or iX3, costs € 50. There is no emissions test. We do pay extra attention to the tyres, brakes and suspension.

How much does an APK for my BMW cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol BMW, a petrol hybrid or an electric BMW, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my BMW?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my BMW fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your BMW failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.
