The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your Seat costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. The prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your Seat in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Why have your Seat inspected at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. Our qualified inspectors check your Seat against the legal APK requirements. You know the cost of the inspection in advance.

A Seat uses Volkswagen Group technology, which we know well. The Ibiza and Leon are common in Rotterdam. On older TSI engines we look out for the timing chain, and on the DSG automatic gearbox for problems with gear changes.

What do we check during the APK for your Seat?

The APK is the same legal inspection for every make: brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate). On a Seat, there are a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • Chain on the older 1.2 and 1.4 TSI: the 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI from about 2007 to 2012 have a timing chain. According to Autohled, it can start to rattle when the chain tensioner is worn, often between 60,000 and 100,000 kilometres. If you hear a rattling noise on a cold start, have it checked. Most newer TSI engines have a timing belt. The 1.8 and 2.0 TSI do have a chain.
  • Seven-speed DSG automatic: many models have a DSG automatic gearbox with two clutches. The seven-speed version (DQ200) had problems with juddering and faults. According to Auto Bild, from late 2013 the manufacturer changed the oil on cars built from 2008 up to and including May 2011 and from October 2012 up to and including April 2013. If the gearbox judders when you pull away, have it checked. Read more about the DSG gearbox (in Dutch).
  • Tyres and lights: according to RDW APK data processed by Autozine, tyres with too little tread and wrongly adjusted dipped headlights or fog lights are common reasons for an Ibiza to fail. Check the tread and the lights yourself beforehand.
  • Plug-in hybrid and electric: on the Leon e-Hybrid, the petrol engine gets an emissions test. The electric Mii does not get an emissions test. These cars mainly use the electric motor to brake, so the brake discs get little use and can rust.

Servicing your Seat with us

We service your Seat according to the manufacturer’s schedule, with oil that meets the specified VW standard. A Seat shows a message when it is due for a service. You do not need to go to the dealer for servicing.

  • Following the Seat schedule: we use your registration number to look up which service your car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit your car.
  • Manufacturer’s warranty: having your car serviced by an independent garage does not automatically end your manufacturer’s warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer’s schedule and uses suitable parts. We record the service in our system and you get an invoice listing all the work. Keep it in a safe place.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Read more about servicing your Seat, car servicing for all makes and the major service (in Dutch). Also read about the DSG gearbox (in Dutch). If you drive a Cupra, read more about the major service for a Cupra (in Dutch).

Seat e-Hybrid, Mii electric and Cupra

The Leon e-Hybrid, the electric Mii and Cupra models such as the Formentor e-Hybrid and Born can all come to us for the APK and servicing. A fully electric car does not get an emissions test. On a plug-in hybrid, the petrol engine does get an emissions test.

Our mechanics hold a GMTO certificate (the Dutch qualification for working on high-voltage systems). This means they can work safely on hybrid and electric cars. Read more about servicing hybrid and electric cars (in Dutch).

Frequently asked questions about the APK for your Seat

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

Does my Seat have a timing belt or a chain?

That depends on the engine. The 1.2 TSI and 1.4 TSI from about 2007 to 2012 have a chain. Most later TSI engines have a belt. The 1.8 and 2.0 TSI do have a chain. We can look it up for you with your registration number. If your car has a belt, we will tell you when it needs replacing.

Do you also inspect a Cupra?

Yes. Cupra is part of Seat and uses Volkswagen Group technology. The APK costs € 50 for petrol, petrol hybrid and electric, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF. You can also have the servicing done with us.

My Seat with a DSG gearbox judders when I pull away. What can I do?

Juddering when you pull away can be caused by old oil or a worn clutch. We first find out what the cause is. Sometimes an oil change helps. We tell you the cost in advance.

How much does an APK for my Seat cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK costs € 50 for a petrol Seat, a petrol hybrid or an electric Seat, and € 60 for a diesel with a factory-fitted DPF, including the particle counter test. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my Seat?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my Seat fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your Seat failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.
