The short answer

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for your vintage or classic car costs € 50 if it runs on petrol. If it runs on diesel or LPG, call us for the price. The price includes VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

If you combine the APK with a major service, the APK is free. You bring your classic car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. If a repair is needed, we tell you the cost first.

Why have your classic car inspected at Autobedrijf Willemsbrug?

We are an independent garage for all makes and an RDW-approved APK station. Our qualified inspectors check your classic car against the legal APK requirements. You know in advance what the inspection costs.

A classic car needs an inspector who knows which requirements apply to its year of manufacture. We have been a family business since 1979 and we know older technology well. We treat your car with care and discuss every repair with you first.

What do we check during the APK for your classic car?

The APK is a legal inspection that covers the brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lights, seat belts, emissions and the vehicle identification (VIN and number plate), among other things. For a vintage or classic car, some of the requirements are those of its year of manufacture. There are also a few points we look at with extra care, or that you as the owner can keep an eye on:

  • When an APK is required: according to the ANWB, a car that was first used before 1 January 1960 does not need an APK. A car that is 30 years old or older needs an APK once every two years. If your classic car is less than 30 years old, it needs an APK every year.
  • Requirements by year of manufacture: a classic car is inspected to the requirements that applied in its year of manufacture, for example for emissions, seat belts and lights. A car from a time when seat belts were not compulsory does not fail because it has none.
  • Rust: rust on load-bearing parts, such as the floor, the sills, the chassis and the suspension mountings, is a common reason for older cars to fail. We show you what we find.
  • Brake pipes: old brake pipes can rust on the inside and the outside. We check them carefully at every inspection.
  • LPG: if your classic car runs on LPG, we also inspect the gas system. Call us and we will tell you in advance what the APK costs.

Servicing your classic car with us

A classic car needs different care from a modern car, such as oil that suits an older engine, adjusting the ignition, brake maintenance and protection against rust. We tell you the cost in advance.

  • Tailored servicing: we discuss with you what your classic car needs, and we use parts and fluids that suit the age of the car.
  • Service history: we record every service and you get an invoice listing all the work. This way you build up a complete history. That helps when you sell your classic car.
  • Free APK with a major service: if you have the APK done at the same time as a major service, you pay nothing for the inspection.
  • Price in advance: call +31 10 479 00 00 and give us your registration number. We will tell you straight away what the service costs.

Frequently asked questions about the APK for your classic car

No need to click. All the answers are already open below.

Does my classic car still need an APK?

Yes. According to the ANWB, only a car that was first used before 1 January 1960 is exempt from the APK. A car that is 30 years old or older needs an APK once every two years. We can look it up for you with your registration number.

Is my classic car inspected to today’s standards?

No. Not on every point. For emissions, seat belts and lights, among other things, the requirements of the year of manufacture apply. We inspect the condition of the brakes, the tyres and the load-bearing parts on every car.

My classic car has rust. Will it fail?

No. Not every patch of rust leads to a fail. Rust on load-bearing parts, such as the floor, the sills or the chassis, means the car fails. Rust on the outside of the bodywork is usually not a reason to fail. We show you what we find and what the repair costs.

How much does an APK for my classic car cost?

At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug, an APK for a vintage or classic car on petrol costs € 50. If it runs on diesel or LPG, call us for the price. With a major service, the APK is free. All prices include VAT, the inspection report and registering the result with the RDW.

Do I need to wait during the APK for my classic car?

No. You bring your car in Monday to Friday between 8.00 and 8.30 am and we call you when it is ready. The inspection itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. On Saturdays we are open for servicing and repairs, but not for the APK.

What happens if my classic car fails the APK?

We call you first. We tell you what the problem is, what the repair costs and whether there are any extra inspection costs. Once you approve, we repair the fault, inspect the car again and register the APK result with the RDW. If your classic car failed the APK somewhere else, we carry out a new APK after the repair at our normal rate.
