The short answer

At Dutch specialists, an automatic gearbox flush usually costs between € 250 and € 650, including fluid, filter and VAT. The precise price depends on the type of gearbox and the transmission fluid it needs. At Autobedrijf Willemsbrug in Rotterdam, you get one total price in advance. Our team speaks English. You can read how the flush itself works on our page about the automatic gearbox flush.

What does the cost depend on?

No two automatic gearboxes are the same. Together, these six factors determine the price of a complete flush. That is why we do not quote a figure off the top of our heads. We first use your registration number to find out which transmission your car has.

Amount of fluid

A small city car may need only six litres of transmission fluid, while a large SUV can need twelve. A complete flush also runs extra fluid through the system to remove as much of the old fluid as possible.

Fluid specification

Each manufacturer prescribes its own fluid specification. The right fluid for a Mercedes-Benz 9G-Tronic costs more than the fluid for an older four-speed automatic. Cutting corners on the specification is asking for trouble.

Filter and oil pan gasket

Many automatic gearboxes have a replaceable oil filter, sometimes built into the oil pan (sump). Whether the filter and gasket are included explains a large part of the price differences between garages.

Type of gearbox

A conventional automatic, a DSG and a CVT each need their own approach. A dry-clutch DSG needs little fluid, while a modern nine-speed automatic needs a lot of fluid and a specific filter.

Labour time

A complete flush takes two to three hours, including test drives, reading the transmission fault memory and setting the fluid level at the correct fluid temperature. A garage that takes much less time usually skips steps.

Flush or oil change only

With an oil change only, often more than half of the old fluid stays behind in the torque converter and the fluid lines. A complete power flush costs a little more, but it replaces a larger part of the old fluid.

What does putting it off cost?

The cost of a flush only becomes clear when you compare it with the alternatives. Dirty fluid can cause irreparable wear to the clutches, the valves and the torque converter.

Oil change only

The cheapest maintenance, but often more than half of the dirty fluid stays behind. As a result, the problems often come back quickly and in the long run you pay twice.

Complete power flush

A flush replaces a larger part of the old fluid, including in the torque converter, the cooler and the fluid lines. If the problem is caused by dirty or old fluid, the way the car changes gear can improve noticeably.

Overhaul or replacement

Driving on too long with dirty fluid often ends in an overhaul or a replacement automatic gearbox costing € 2,000 to € 6,000. A flush in good time costs only a fraction of that.

One total price, agreed in advance

Know in advance what your automatic gearbox flush will cost

No open-ended hourly billing and no unexpected costs afterwards. We use your registration number to find out which transmission your car has, which fluid specification it needs and whether a filter needs replacing. You get one total price straight away, and that price stands.

Why the cheapest provider often costs you more

Have you seen a strikingly low price for an automatic gearbox flush somewhere? Then look carefully at what you get for it. Quick-service chains often change only part of the fluid, without a filter change and without cleaning the torque converter. The problems then come back within a few thousand kilometres and you pay twice.

When you compare costs, check three points. Is the whole system flushed? Does the fluid meet the correct factory specification? And are the filter, the gasket and VAT included? Not sure whether your problems are really caused by dirty fluid? Then first read how to recognise automatic gearbox problems (in Dutch), or what to do if your automatic gearbox jerks when changing gear (in Dutch).

Frequently asked questions about the cost of an automatic gearbox flush

All the answers are shown below, so there is no need to click.

How much does an automatic gearbox flush cost on average?

At Dutch transmission specialists in 2026, you usually pay between € 250 and € 650 for a complete flush, including fluid, filter and VAT. The precise price depends mainly on the type of gearbox and on the amount and specification of the transmission fluid. Call us on +31 10 479 00 00 with your registration number and we will tell you the total price for your car straight away.

Why do prices differ so much between garages?

The biggest difference is in what is done and what is included. Some garages change only part of the fluid, while a real power flush cleans the whole system. Also check which fluid specification is used, whether the filter and oil pan gasket are included and whether the price includes VAT. So a low price does not automatically mean the same work.

How much does a DSG flush cost?

A dry-clutch DSG (such as the DQ200 in Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Skoda models) needs little fluid, so it sits at the lower end of the guide prices. A wet-clutch DSG needs more fluid and a filter change, so it costs a little more. Also read our page on the DSG oil change or call us for the price for your version.

Is a flush a waste of money if my automatic gearbox still shifts well?

No. A preventive flush at your gearbox’s interval, usually between 60,000 and 120,000 kilometres, is many times cheaper than waiting until problems appear. An overhaul or a replacement automatic gearbox can easily cost € 2,000 to € 6,000. A flush costs only a fraction of that. This helps extend the life of your transmission and keeps your car’s value up.

How do I get the precise price for my car?

Call us on +31 10 479 00 00 and have your registration number to hand. We can then see straight away which transmission your car has, which fluid it needs and whether a filter needs replacing. You get one total price right away, including fluid, filter and VAT. That way you have no unexpected costs afterwards.

Can I combine the flush with a service or an APK?

Yes. That saves you an extra visit. The flush itself takes two to three hours, so we can easily plan a service (in Dutch) or an APK (MOT) around it. In the meantime, you can use our free loan bike. That way your car is fully sorted in one go.
